I thought the barrage of shoddy Motorola devices came to an end when Optus cleared them from their online store, but evidently that is not the case. Motorola have today announced that they are bringing the Motorola FLIPOUT to our shores, and I know just how excited everyone is about that. But hang on, let’s give this one a chance shall we? Motorola haven’t yet announced which carrier it will be available through, surely it’ll be Optus. It’s coming to Vodafone for $299.

the Motorola FLIPOUT with MOTOBLUR is coming to Australia in early October! FLIPOUT’s a stylishly square and compact smartphone and it runs on Android™ 2.1. FLIPOUT even comes with removable covers so you can choose from white, red and black to match your style.

The FLIPOUT features a form-factor only Motorola could dream up, and the following specs:

  • 2.8″ QVGA Capacitive Display
  • Full QWERTY Keyboard
  • TI OMAP3410 600MHz CPU
  • Android 2.1 w/ MOTOBLUR v1.5
  • 3.2MP Camera

    Funky.

    Good for secondary students.

It looks like it will appeal to the teen social networker. At least it fills a niche.

  • The_Guy

    A stereotype niche, maybe.

Ughh, they bring this but keep quiet on Milestone 2, nice work Motorola.

…so owners will “flipout” when they announce it won’t be upgraded to Froyo?

    • Dylan

      lol irl

thats a neat little thing, looks better than the x10 mini-pro and its cheaper!

    • rezwan

      So true…LOL…Motorola “Bacflip”ped once

Yay for it going to Vodafone and not Optus!

    • coder

Any idea when it’ll be available in Australia? Months or weeks?

      • http://ausdroid.net/ Buzz Moody

No date that I know of, surely it can’t be too long before we hear something.

Any chance Vodafone might add prepaid data packs to their offerings with this one? Otherwise having a smartphone on vodafone prepaid makes no sense.

hehe cute little phone and with 2.1, that’s a little shock!

would be nice as a backup if my SGS crapped out, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon and decent price tag for a phone like this.

still in the end, another niche product, although who knows, if successful enough we might even see the Motorola Charm here, which looks quite nice for a qwerty/touch candybar phone.

Wow Voda are bringing it, that suprises me (Good to see Vodaphone going hard for Android). $299 outright will make it interesting to see how it goes against the Wildfire from Telstra.

  • Dylan

any idea when it’s coming, buzz?

    • Dylan

nevermind, just read your comment :)
