Acer Iconia A501 and Dell Streak 7 now available from Optus, in time for Christmas

It’s okay everyone, I’m back! Exams are over and it’s time for me to get back to bringing you all the news I can. This post is a good one to start off with for sure: Optus have announced that they’re launching the Acer Iconia A501 and Dell Streak 7 in time for the Christmas shopping season. Both tablets were launched by their respective manufacturers early this year, so it has taken a bit of time for them to finally make it to Optus. The reasoning behind this may be the low-priced plans that Optus have put the tablets on. You’ll be able to get the Acer Iconia A501 for $0 on their $39 Tablet Plan and the Dell Streak is $0 on their $29 Tablet Plan over a 2 year period — not too shabby really.

Acer Iconia A501

The Iconia A501 from Acer has a 10.1-inch display with the usual 1280×800 resolution display. It packs a 1GHz Dual-Core Tegra 2 CPU and runs Android 3.2 — the latest version of Honeycomb, no word on Ice Cream Sandwich just yet. For connectivity there’s your usual MicroSD slot, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi b/g and 21Mbit downlink 3G. Optus will be selling both the 16GB and 32GB variants of the Iconia A501.

Dell Streak 7

The Streak 7 from Dell is pretty much a bigger version of the original Dell Streak (no longer in production) that used to be sold by Optus. Like the Iconia A501, the Dell Streak 7 is powered by NVIDIA’s 1GHz Dual-Core Tegra 2 CPU. The screen is 7-inches and has a shitty resolution of 800×480 (that’s 133ppi) and runs Android 3.2. Optus make mention of the Streak 7’s 5MP rear camera with LED.

Optus’ Tablet Plans

Optus are launching the two tablets on their new Tablet Plans which are simply a renaming of the iPad’s Data Plan. The $29 Tablet Plan will get you 4GB of mobile data whereas the $39 Tablet Plan will get you a whopping 8GB of mobile data. Goodluck going over those limits, guys.
