Ausdroid Podcast 023 – Are We Still On? – 25/01/2012

Yes it’s finally here, the Ausdroid Podcast Episode 23. It’s taken almost a week and I’m promise I will try to get it out much sooner next time. This episode is a bit of a ripper, it was a small house, with only 4 hosts but we got through some news. HTC’s newest handset and the first 4G phone in Australia, the Velocity got a good talking about, along with weather or not manufactuers are doing enough to keep phone relevant for longer periods. The Transformer Prime got a mention and so did the Galaxy S III rumours, LG’s new attempt to get back in to the game again and of course much more. The break is below peepz.

Hosts: Lucas Burnett, Buzz Moody, Geoff Fieldew and Matt Booth

nice work guys, keep it up

You guys talked about contacts on the podcast… One options which you guys didn’t talk about is picking up the “contract” you like with a free phone then selling that phone and buying the one you like outright..

So what I’ve basically done with my last few phone purchases:
I went on a 24 month $70 contract w/ Telstra that included a free iPhone4 and (6gb of data). I sold it without ever taking the phone out of the box ~$800, then purchased the phone I wanted an S2 from the UK when it was released. I ended up pocketing about $200 for myself in the process.

Also worth mentioning is most carrier I think you’ll find will give you a new phone to upgrade to for free if you recontact at about 18 month stage..

It’s a bit more work.. but if your a phone junkie it’s a great way to get the phone you want without shelling out $6-700 every 12 months whilst still paying your service provider for just a pre-paid service.

Nice, but how do you sell the phones? through ebay?

      • Andrew Palozzo

Yup.. i sold quite a few through eBay..

From what I know, you need to wait until the last 3 months of your 2 year contract to recontract for free. At least, that’s how it is with the carrier I work for.

Can I ask what carrier? As when I’ve told them I wanted to port away, they’ve laid the red carpet out for me :)
