Playstation Mobile launches today in Australia

Good news for Aussie Android gamers today as Playstation Mobile goes live, bringing PS Store games and content to the Sony Xperia line as well as other Playstation-certified devices.

The great news is that purchases will be linked with users’ Playstation Network accounts, meaning that a game can be purchased once and played on any compatible device. There will initially be about 30 games available, and Sony have promised that there is more to come, with new titles being added every Wednesday.

To get started, head on over to the installation page, where Sony have interestingly chosen a side-loaded APK as the installation method rather than the Google Play Store. If you have any other questions regarding the service, there’s a fairly comprehensive FAQ over at playstation.com.

They didn’t have much choice in the matter. One of the few restrictions the Play Store has is that you can’t distribute alternative marketplaces. You also won’t find the Amazon Appstore in Play, for example.
