Find Technology Bargains with the StaticICE Android App

We missed its original release, but felt we should let you know that the Australian technology price comparison site staticICE has released an Android version of their iOS app.

The app gives you quick access to search and filter your results based on price, much as you would do on their website. Once you’ve found the item you want and the retailer you want to buy it from, they’ll link you directly to the product page on their website.

You can also save searches (including filters) to your favourites, and send them via email. You could easily check over time to see if prices are trending downwards on that device you always wanted.

The app has a fairly basic UI as shown in the screenshots. The Nexus 7 is welcome to come to the party, although as with many other apps it just gets a blown-up phone interface. The builtin web browser is pretty basic, with back/forward/refresh buttons placed dangerously close to the system’s soft buttons at the bottom of the screen. I think I’d much rather open links in Chrome directly.

Maybe in the future staticICE will allow users to get alerts when an item they’re looking for drops below a certain price or is available from a specific retailer.

staticICE is a useful resource when shopping for consumer electronics and technogloy – they can usually point you to a shop that’ll save you a few dollars. It’s a free app, so I’d suggest giving it a go!

staticICE is free in the Google Play store.

Before discovering the Nexus One, Jason thought he didn't need a smartphone. Now he can't bear to be without his Android phone. Jason hails from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane depending on his mood and how detailed a history you'd like. A web developer by day with an interest in consumer gadgets and electronics, he also enjoys reading comics and has a worryingly large collection of Transformers figures. He'd like to think he's a gamer, but his Wii has been in a box since he moved to Sydney, and his PlayStation Vita collection is quite lacking. Most mornings you'll find him tilting at various windmills on Twitter - follow @JM77 and say hi!
