If you’re in the market for a cheap pre-paid phone that is water and dust resistant, carries the Telstra Blue Tick for better coverage in regional and rural areas then look no further than the Motorola Defy+ which has been dropped from $249 down to just $99+postage from the Telstra Online store. The phone is not a bad little package offering some decent mid-range specs :

  • 3.7″ 480×854 WVGA touchscreen
  • 1GHz CPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • 2GB Storage with microSD card Slot
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, aGPS
  • Android 2.3
  • Water and scratch resistant and dustproof

Not a bad deal and at $99 it also includes $10 worth of credit, if you have kids this would be a highly recommended device. Head on over to the Telstra On-line store and check it out.

Does that say 5mp camera? in a sub $100 phone? Man am I getting old. I might look into one of these to replace my tired $40 Sam’s Warehouse backup phone. Wonder what the Updated ROM scene is like for this one?

Locked to Tel$tra is of no concern to me. I still have my old faithful SGS for my main phone on Virgin (Optus). This would only be for a backup Tel$tra phone, for alternative coverage spread. Long Life ($15/6 months) Piece of Mind Insurance. For Justin.

..and of course another toy to play with. Obviously. :)

Pretty sure the Defy+ has now got Jelly Bean thanks to some CyanogenMod loving.

Dont forget to mention its locked to Telstra and $100 to unlock.

What do you expect for a $100. Once you recharge $80 they usually unlock it for you. We bought this for the father in law earlier this year and he loves it. Would make a great xmas gift for teenagers or any dads still using feature phones but I guess Telstra already know this.

I didnt say i had an issue with it being locked. its just nice to mention it in the Post that its locked so people can make an informed decision

Dylan and others – I’d say its safe to assume that any prepaid handset is going to be sold locked, such that I would only refer to a handset as being sold locked if it were postpaid. The reverse is also true, if a handset were unlocked and prepaid, we’d refer to that.
