Optus handset news – Samsung Galaxy S II & III Jelly Bean updates approved

Optus have updated their handset update status page today with some big news. The Samsung Galaxy S III Jelly Bean update has been approved, and deployment is imminent. No dates as yet but it won’t be far off.

Also big news for Samsung Galaxy S II owners, as their Jelly Bean update has also been approved and is expected early January.

A maintenance update to the Samsung Galaxy S III 4G is also under testing and is expected any time now.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean update appears to be some way off as Optus have yet to receive the update for testing.

Samsung’s original phablet, the Galaxy Note, is expected to receive a Jelly Bean update mid December, so expect that to come through sometime soon.

Some good news for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 owners, as Optus have ceased testing the 4.0.4 update and are waiting for Samsung to send them an Android 4.1 update for testing.

The HTC One X Jelly Bean update is currently being tested and is listed as being expected by mid December. It’s mid December now and there’s been no news, so make of that what you will. I scoured their support forums but found no additional information regarding the update.

  • Voda are actually pretty good at providing update feedback now …

Think you missed this in your searching –

  • Deleting my comment and then fixing the story isn’t really cool. Android Central learnt that the hard way over the Nexus 4 LTE thing, don’t fall into the same trap. I love Ausdroid, but that’s not how you should handle things.

    • Hi Brian. Your initial comment was actually flagged as spam automatically by Disqus, because it contained a URL in it. Strange behaviour, but none the less I’ve restored the comment and it now appears below. I’ve checked the audit trail — no one deleted it. Sorry for the inconvenience. C.

Yes I changed the story. No it wasn’t because of your comment. I changed the article before I saw any comments believe it or not. I decided to change the article to give more focus to the SGS II and III updates as they deserve their own post. I removed mention of Vodafone and Virgin as I wanted to do a separate article for those to keep this one Optus only. As Chris said your article was initially flagged as spam due to the URL posted in it.

    Thanks for the update

Looking forward to the post on virgin s3… when is that happening

    • Moobs

Virgin is owned by optus so it should happen at the same time.

  • soz im a bit of a newby, but i have the s3 through virgin mobile, as virgin use the optus network, does this mean the update will come out at the same time? if not what is the stats of the update with virgin?

How much you wanna bet this wont happen until January .. knowing Optus. I’d love them to prove me wrong.

Guess I’ll have to eat my words eh! :/

Optus are bloody hopeless. I’m with them on a plan and their service is pretty hopeless. I’m on official 4.1.2 and it works great, the testing for phones takes way too long. It’s ridiculous.

Just a heads up .. downloading a 291mb software update via OTA right now on my optus sgs3. GEEKED!

Sadly, I dont even think Optus know what is going on regarding the Galaxy Nexus… so annoying.

It’s now April coming to May; and my galaxy note is still running on ICS with no firm date as to when JB is coming around.

Optus is a new name for me, I think cell phone is only available in abroad countries, but it is not available in India. Because i never heard this telecom Company name ever anywhere.
