Chromebook Pixel

Mobicity announced this afternoon that they’re taking orders for the Chromebook Pixel, Google’s “Halo” Chromebook device recently launched to show off their ‘other’ Operating System — ChromeOS.

The Chromebook Pixel is described by Google as a device “For what’s next”. It’s a laptop that “brings together the best in hardware, software, and design to inspire future innovation”. From looking at the specs you can certainly believe that this is the case.

Mobicity is selling the Wi-Fi Chromebook Pixel for $1,648.90 (inc GST). The device will come with a 1 year local warranty, which you can upgrade to 2 years for an additional $65.95. The price has been specified in both ex- and inc-GST because the device will attracts GST changes when it passes through customs. The Final price also takes into account costs for freight – while shipping begins at $0, you’ll still have to pay a Customs and Courier GST Processing Fee of $52. The total price for your Chromebook Pixel will be around $1,700 delivered.

Chromebook-for-Everyone

Despite Google’s Chromebook marketing campaign, the Pixel and ChromeOS aren’t suitable for everyone, but they’re definitely worth a try.

Mobicity also sells the Samsung Chromebook and Series 5 550 Chromebooks as well as the Acer C7 at a much lower price if you would like to check it out. Geoff Fieldew previously reviewed the Samsung Chromebook for Ausdroid.

Check out the Mobicity Website for details on the Pixel and how to place an order.

As it seems to have the UK keyboard and I need to save up, it a no go for me,
    I need my @ above the 2.

PS – I have a wired chromeos keyboard for my chromebox, the lower case letters took a little while for me to get used to.

I think they cut the marketing slogan short. At that insane rip off price the slogan ought to be: “For everyone with more cash than brains”

Think I’ll wait to see what price I can negotiate with The Good Guys when they get it.
