Rumour: HTC ‘T6′ to launch in Q3 as HTC One Max

The rumoured ‘Phablet’ from HTC currently only known by its codename of the T6 has been named as the HTC One Max by an analyst in a note to investors. Alvin Kwock from J.P. Morgan in Hong Kong, spoke about a number of things but about the T6 he advised that ‘Many carriers are highly interested in the HTC One Max smartphone, as it is the only flagship model with a uni-body casing back-cover to be released in the second half of this year’.

The rumoured specs that were reported recently by EVLeaks, were again reiterated although the CPU was listed as a 2.2GHz frequency rather than 2.3GHz, the assertion that the phone would launch with Key Lime Pie was also made.

The HTC One Mini was mentioned as was a successor to the HTC Butterfly, called the HTC Butterfly 2 with both said to be launching in Q3 this year.

Kwock also noted that this strong pipeline of models may fuel HTC’s up-cycle for the rest of the year, indicating they expect that improved case yields and successful high-end flagship models would improve margins, with revenue expected to grow 75 percent in the second quarter and by 15 to 20 percent in the third and fourth quarters.

While the hardware may indeed be launched around that time, it is a hard call to see Google launch Android 4.3 in the coming months and then follow up with a major release like Key Lime Pie in the third quarter. Traditionally the latest versions of Android have launched with new Nexus hardware so having a third party OEM launch a flagship with the latest release of Android whilst attractive is a bit far fetched.

Could an OEM launch a new phone with a new version of Android in Q3 this year?

This is a device I could get excited about. I was first introduced to android when the HTC Wildfire first came out. The build quality has always impressed me, still I can not quite justify a phablet, less I walk around in cargo pants or No!, the man bag.

Who cares about ‘key lime pie’. I just want this superphone.
My current 6.1″ Huawei does in fact fit easily in several styles of pant pockets and for the most part is capable phone, but it lacks grunt.
Once you use a phone over 5.5″ you won’t want anything smaller. Everything is so much easier on the eye.
Get a discrete earbud bluetooth handsfree set and phone calls aren’t an embarassment either.

If it is to launch with KLP, then it will come out around December, as the Nexus 5 will be the first with KLP in mid November,
