Nexus 7 Press Shots Leaked

nexus7

Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) is at it again, today leaking what appears to be an official press shots of the new Nexus 7. Dual rear facing speakers, a notification light and a rear camera can be seen in the image.

The updated Nexus 7 has already seen several leaks in the last week, and this morning Android Police posted photos of a Best Buy catalogue listing the new Nexus 7 as being available from Tuesday in the US. According to the catalogue, the device has a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 and sells for US $229.99.

Best Buy lists this tablet as having 16 GB storage space, though we’re told to expect a 32 GB variant:

Of note is the slot visible on the image from the back where it is suspected to hold a SIM card, leading to speculation that the device will carry mobile data from the very beginning (the original Nexus 7 didn’t gain a cellular data variant until late last year).

According to current rumours, the device is expected to come with:

  • 7-inch Screen at 1920×1200
  • 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core CPU
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • 16 GB and 32 GB on-board storage
  • Dual cameras – 5MP rear/1.2MP front
  • Slim Port video out
  • Dual Speakers
  • Android 4.3
  • Wireless charging

All should be revealed on Thursday, as Google have scheduled an event for this Wednesday (US time), where it’s believed they’ll announce the new device.

We’re hopeful it will be available for purchase almost immediately from local stores in Australia, although at this stage all stores I have approached haven’t heard when the next Nexus 7 will be, or even if it will be, available here.

I’ll be keeping a keen eye on all the catalogs that come into my workplace, and try and give a bit of a leg up on local availability.

My comments were more tongue-in-cheek and wondering aloud. But the truth is that I will probably miss this version of Nexus 7 and purchase the next one. I’ll give my current N7 to the wife who only uses it for social media, email and checking the weather to see what she needs to set out for the kids to wear to school. But thanks for the advice.

Dual rear speakers *shudders*. I really REALLY like what HTC did with the One how they moved the speakers to the FRONT of the device. Look at the bezel on the N7 I’m sure it could fit them

“4GB of Ram” Is that right? Should that be 2GB??

Nope, 4GB is the expected number.

Means more fluid running of multiple apps, and the possibility of caching those flash storage accesses (that’s a guess)

For those trying to spot it, the slot is bottom left from the back. Doing some measurements, It’s undeniably the 17mm needed for a SIM card with a little space to insert/retrieve. Not sure if that means all N7 MkIIs will include LTE capability (somehow I doubt it) – probably just using the LTE variant for the photos. Probably means it will be released around the same time though. However, @evleaks also has a pic of the MkII next to the MkI – and it’s a different size. Its longer, but thinner – which means all your cases, docks, etc.… Read more »

How much do we think this will sell for in AU$?
I’m hopeful it’s $280 + shipping. (Usually google have added $50 for AU)

I reckon it’ll be the same price as the original one was here- $320 wasn’t it?
