Acer Liquid S2 is the first phone announced with 4K Video recording

It’s been a long time since Acer launched or sold a phone in Australia, but if there is an Acer phone you want, it’s probably the Acer Liquid S2 which has just been announced ahead of a full unveiling at IFA in Germany.

The Liquid S2 – which we first saw in a leaked roadmap mid last month – will come with a 6″ IPS Display, on which you can display some beautiful 4K video captured on the rear facing 13MP camera, a trick made possible by the 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 SOC which is powering it.

The camera, in addition to recording 4K Ultra HD content, will capture video in full 1080P HD at 60 Frames Per Second. A full 27MP Panorama shot is possible from the rear camera when using still shot mode. Acer will offer an array of different smart modes for the camera like – Smart Best Shot, which automatically take a slew of photos after recognising the scene type automatically, once finished you can pick the best shot. You can also create profiles with the camera app to fit your favourite settings into.

The full range of specs includes :

  • 6″, full HD (1,920 x 1,080), 368 PPI, IPS Display.
  • Quad-core 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 SOC
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB On-board Storage
  • Main camera 13 MP auto-focus, f2.2, 28 mm lens, BSI sensor, LED ring flash, 4K video with 2MP Front camera, f2.2, 24 mm lens, 88° wide angle, BSI sensor, 1080p video
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11ac/a/b/g/n, Bluetooth® 4.0, GPS+GLONASS, NFC
  • Light sensor, accelerometer, proximity sensor, digital compass, gyro
  • Network: 4G: 800/1800/2600 3G: 900/2100 2G: 850/900/1800/1900
  • Acer features:
    • Acer Float UI, Acer HD Channel, Acer Docs and Acer Remote Files, Acer Data Traffic Manager, Acer Float Caller, Acer Float Apps, (maps/notes/camera/calculator), Acer Live Screen™, Acer Print, AcerEasy hotspot
    • Additional features: Skitch, YouTube™, Moodagent, Polaris Office, Swype text input, Google Keep, Evernote®, wireless display, Dolby Digital Plus
  • Android™ 4.2.2
  • 166x86x8.99 mm
  • 3300 mAh, non-replaceable Li-polymer battery
  • It’s been a long while since we’ve seen an Acer Liquid mobile launch here in Australia but I really wouldn’t mind seeing this one. 4K Content is the next big hurdle for all TV Manufacturers to overcome before more wide-spread adoption of their TVs, if getting people to record their own content is the impetus for widespread adoption, I imagine we’ll see the likes of Samsung, Sony, Panasonic and LG follow suit fairly quickly.

Dan is a die-hard Android fan. Some might even call him a lunatic. He's been an Android user since Android was a thing, and if there's a phone that's run Android, chances are he owns it (his Nexus collection is second-to-none) or has used it.

Dan's dedication to Ausdroid is without question, and he has represented us at some of the biggest international events in our industry including Google I/O, Mobile World Congress, CES and IFA.

Sure has the bloatware packed in there. Nice specs otherwise.

I am sure XDA-Developers will have the bloat taken care of in no time, once released. Question is, will it be released here ?

Agreed. The list of bloat was staggering. Seems like a fantastic phone on paper.
