ZOPO ZP998

ZOPO today launched what they claim to be the first true octo-core smart phone, the ZP998, which is powered by the MediaTek MT6592. We featured the  8 core MT6592 yesterday, which benchmarks show that it’s almost as powerful as the current Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. The phone is 3G/2G dual SIM with the very cool LG G2 like double tap to wake the screen.

The specifications of the ZOPO ZP998 are:

  • MediaTek MT6592 octo-core cortex A7 SoC @ 1.7GHz
  • Mali 450 MP4 @ 700MHz GPU
  • 5.5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS TFT display with 401PPI with Low Temperature Poly-Silicon technology
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n – DLNA Wi-Fi Hotspot, tethering and portable hotspot
  • 14MP rear camera with F/20 aperture, supports 1080P video recording with LED flash
  • 5MP front camera with F/20 aperture
  • GPS with A-GPS
  • Dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, NFC, Wi-Fi Direct, USB On-The-Go
  • 2GB RAM and 32GB storage expandable via microUSB up to 64GB
  • 2400mAh Li-ion battery
  • 3G 900/1900/2100 – 2G 850/900/1800/1900
  • Android 4.2

The ZOPO ZP998 is available for pre-order from the ZOPO Shop now for US$ 299.99 plus delivery, but you had better be fast as ZOPO’s are known to run out of stock quickly.

Got me the Zopo C2 Platinum the display is fantastic, and it is quite stable really, good touch screen, some ghost touches yes but very rare, and fast enough to play games such as Real Racing 3. Overall very happy with it.

Have the ZP980, very pleased with it. Nice bright display, and it costs way less than any Samsung.

If the media tek is not as powerful why is octocore better? At this time

Because it is cheaper than the Qualcomm S800 alternative. And more available to Chinese manufacturers such as ZOPO, TCL (called Alcatel in Australia), Huawei, Lenovo and more.
