Acer C720 Chromebook on sale at JB HiFi with 15% off this weekend

Are you in the market for a new laptop? Are you considering a Chromebook? If you are, then this might be a good weekend to head into your local JB HiFi store and check out the Acer C720 Chromebook. JB is offering 15% off all Acer laptops this weekend, including the C720.

Chromebooks have come a fair way since they first hit the market here in Australia, and the C720 truly is a powerhouse of a laptop for under $400. Featuring a dual-core Intel Haswell CPU running at 1.4 GHz, with 2 GB of RAM and a 16 GB SSD, the C720 is one of the fastest Chromebooks you can get. Most of the other Chromebooks in this price-range run slower, less powerful ARM-based processors.

This mightn’t mean a lot to the average user, but let’s put it like this: Intel Haswell chips are super power efficient, and they’re significantly faster than ARM chips. Despite this extra power, the Acer C720 is rated at around 8.5 hours of battery life, and in our experience (we’ve got one at Ausdroid which we’ll be reviewing shortly) this is pretty accurate.

So, that said, if you want an Acer C720, head into JB HiFi this weekend and grab one at 15% off retail for just $336.60. The offer ends Monday, so don’t miss out.

Can anybody point me to a definitive guide for wiping chromeos and installing ubuntu on this? I’ve heard great things about this hardware, and it seems great value for money.

Not that I’ve seen. However, the YouTube editor has added some pretty cool features over the last 12 months.
