At their Mobile World Congress event, Sony have officially launched the newest member of their Android tablet range, following up last years ultra-thin Xperia Tablet Z with the Xperia Z2 Tablet, and let me say, this tablet looks stunning.

The new Z2 Tablet measures only 6.4mm thin (its predecessor was 6.9mm think) almost like a thinnish pamphlet is how it is being described. The Xperia Z2 Tablet hasn’t changed too much design wise, at the front of the tablet you’ll find a button-free 10.1″ wide screen display still encased in an all glass front whilst the back of the device is a matte black plastic. Similarly to last years model, the bezels are still heavily present.

Sony are stating that the Z2 is completely waterproof, offering an IP55/IP58 rating for dust and water. The Z2 Tablet will be the cleanest one around, with the tablet able to be completely “dunked” in the sink to wash off spills or dirty fingermarks. Certainly something that the inner-tech nerd in me will have to get used to.

Sony have also upped the ante with the Xperia Z2 Tablet offering the world’s first Digital Noise Cancelling technology in a tablet allowing the user to experience, a truly immersive sound experience.

The device will also come with a range of accessories available including abluetooth speaker dock that also doubles as the devices magnetic charging dock. Or if you’re in the mood to make a call from your tablet using Google Hangouts or Skype, Sony is offering a bluetooth remote that also acts as a small handset so you’re not left holding a 10″ tablet to your ear.

Here is a full rundown of the specs for the Xperia Z2 Tablet:

  • 10.1” 1920 x 1200 pixels Full HD TRILUMINOS™ Display
  • 2.3 GHz quad-core Krait Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 320 GPU

  • 8.1MP Exmor RS™ for mobile sensor on the Rear and 2.2MP HD Front-Facing camera

Sony are also offering 6 movies from Sony Pictures including Captain Phillips as well as a 30 day free trial from the Music Unlimited service and as the Tablet is Playstation Certified – range of PlayStation®Mobile games.

The Xperia Z2 Tablet will also come in both black and white colours for the Wi-Fi only verison although other LTE and Wi-Fi variants will only be available in black. Sony did state at the event the tablet will be available in the UK and the rest of Europe in March. Prices are said to be well above EURO300+ but the price has yet to be confirmed by the company.

We are also still unsure when if the Xperia Z2 Tablet will be coming down to us here in Australia, but we will keep you informed of any local availability updates.

What do you think of the Xperia Z2 Tablet? Would you consider buying the new tablet from Sony when it comes to Australia?

Should it not be the Adreno 330? This chip is a minor upgrade on the S800 which should also have the 330 but with a higher clock speed.

Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 330 GPU……COOL !!!

10.1” 1920 x 1200 pixels is high enough pixel count for me.

It should be quite a fast tablet, if only it could be priced similar to the Nexus 10 then we’d have a winner.

I’d be ultra keen if there was an 8″ model.

Looks Damn fine to me! The plastic back is a bit of a downer, but spec wise, it is much better than my TF700.
Let’s see what HTC comes up with with the Nexus tab. That should be killler!
