Google Play Awards to debut at Google I/O this year, showcasing great apps and games

A big awards ceremony is always a big draw card, Google dipped their toes in the water with their Material Design awards, but this year they’re going all in, announcing the inaugural Google Play Awards.

The event will take place on the first day of Google I/O, on Stage 7, with 10 categories of awards to distribute. The range of categories, and the nominees have been announced with Google announcing that ‘Nominees were selected by a panel of experts on the Google Play team based on criteria emphasizing app quality, innovation, and having a launch or major update in the last 12 months’.

Google has summed the nominees up into a special focus on Google Play for you to check out, but also listed the categories and nominees they’ve been nominated in:
