Boost Mobile has added a new pre-paid mobile smartphone to its line up of devices, announcing the inclusion of the Boost Dex — made by Alcatel — for just $99.

The Boost Dex isn’t anything to get too excited about; it is a budget phone, to be sure, but looking at the spec sheet, it’s not half bad. It comes with exclusive DJ software, which Boost are saying describes as allowing users to “mix the hottest tracks and watch your favorite clips” – whatever that means is anyone’s guess. Could be an app or something inbuilt for Boost Mobile here.

Sadly though, the Boost website hasn’t provided a full list of specs and while we have asked Boost for official details, from the research we have completed it would seem the Boost Dex by Alcatel is basically an Alcatel Pixi 4 (5) – yeah thank goodness they changed the name, right?

So here is what we know based on the specs of the Alcatel Pixi 4 (5):

  • 5.0” FWVGA Display (480×854 TFT)
  • 1.0 GHz Quad Core Processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB memory available, expandable to 32GB via microSD
  • 5MP rear facing camera, 2MP front facing
  • Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, A-GPS
  • Battery: Removable Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery
  • Network Connectivity:
    • 2G: 900/1800MHz
    • 3G: 850/2100MHz
    • 4G: 700/1800/2100/2600MHz
  • Dimensions: 140.7 x 72.5 x 9.5mm @ 165 grams

The Boost Dex comes with interchangeable rear covers to reflect your own style and/or personality. The Boost Dex by Alcatel is available to purchase through the Boost website directly, as well as through Boost retailers such as Kmart, Target or Big W.

If you’re interested in finding out more or about pre-plans Boost has available, you can head over to the Boost website to check it out. The Boost Dex by Alcatel is available to purchase through the retail partners listed above for $99. As the device is locked to the Boost/Telstra network, unlocking fees will apply to unlock and use the device on another network.
