Nintendo is developing another smartphone game from the Zelda franchise – ‘The Legend of Zelda’

One of Nintedo’s best and most premium franchises is coming to your smartphone very soon according to a report that surfaced overnight in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The Legend of Zelda is being co-developed by Japanese developer DeNA, and will be the next smartphone app after Animal Crossing according to unnamed sources in the WSJ report. Of course, this information supports recent comments made by Tatsumi Kimishima, President and CEO of Nintendo, who stated that Nintendo will release two to three smartphone titles per year.

Now given that Nintendo originally promised it would release Animal Crossing in March this year and now having delayed that until next financial year (2018) at its latest earnings conference call, the unnamed sources have now been able to inform the WSJ that Animal Crossing actually now looks like it would be released later this year. Although no exact time frames or if you will need to pay to either download or play then pay after reaching a certain level weren’t given in the report.

Given Nintendo just recently released Fire Emblem Heroes on mobile, and launched Super Mario Run late last year, and given the Nintendo Switch’s breakaway hit The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the new Zelda mobile game could potentially reap Nintendo’s mobile game app division a bigger windfall than the current poultry amount of USD$176 million (AUD$237 million approximately) they have been able to reap from mobile gaming.

Only time will tell I guess.
