Origins

Android Australia (our original name) is the brainchild of Buzz Moody, who created a website to bring Android news relevant to Australia to the masses. Android Australia began in March 2010, and emerged from an earlier site design that Buzz used to discuss the Motorola Droid, aka Sholes.

Buzz recognised early the promise of Android, and the need for local news that matters to an Australian audience. The US-based blogs are fantastic — but they don’t always apply to what we do down-under. Many phones that were being announced in the US at the time never made their way to Australia, so why would we want to read about things we can’t have?

Expansion

In May 2010, Telstra ran its Social Review program, where a group of socially-active people were chosen to review the HTC Desire. During this experiment, Buzz met Chris, who was to join Android Australia in August 2010 when the site became too much work for just one person.

Over the following six months, we became Ausdroid — short for Android Australia, Lucas joined the team as our western correspondent and Ausdroid really took off. Ausdroid incorporated, we developed a sustainable business model, and began cooking with gas.

What we do

Ausdroid is a big friendly team – we have team members around Australia and overseas, and our goal is to bring you the most up to date, relevant and interesting Android news for an Australian audience.

We have developed long-term, close relationships with all carriers and phone providers, and we use our connections to bring you the very freshest breaking news, reviews and opinion for your consumption. Our dedicated team works around the clock to bring the news to you — if you think you can do the same, you’re welcome to drop us a line if you’d like to join the team.

Why Ausdroid

Simply put, our team has been involved with Android from the earliest days. We’ve been there since Android Cupcake, and some of our team have used every single build of Android released through to the most recent Jelly Bean builds.
