Nexus 6 lists Optus as a supported carrier – but it’s probably not going to be offered by them

When the Nexus 6 will show up and where is the big question at the moment. As one of the top carriers – in terms of coverage and subscriber base – many would like to see Optus carry the phone, and from the support page which Google has posted for the Nexus 6, it confirms it’s possible. The support page for the Nexus 6, lists the Networks and compatible carriers which offer compatible 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE bands for the phone and Optus is certainly listed – along with Vodafone. But there’s also a rider added at the top which[Read More...]

Optus Smart Safe online backup service closing its doors on December 1

Optus Smart Safe online backup service closing its doors on December 1

Optus has written in a letter to users that its online backup service Smart Safe will close, effective December 1 2014. The Smart Safe site has not yet been updated to reflect the closure. The service, which provided backup solutions for PCs and mobile devices, was provided for Optus customers by F-Secure – who also previously provided antivirus software for Optus customers. F-Secure has advised Optus that they’re shutting the Smart Safe product down (curious wording, that), and will offer its own services under its younited service. The termination of the product could reflect low customer uptake, which might itself[Read More...]

Telstra Rush (T792) pops up on ZTE’s website

A new low-end phone seems to be about to head to Telstra’s pre-paid mobile service with the Telstra Rush (T792) popping up on ZTE’s website. Which Australian carriers will offer the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9?

Which Australian carriers will offer the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9?

We’ve been doing the legwork today talking to manufacturers, carriers and retailers trying to find out Australian launch information for Google’s shiny new Nexus devices. Earlier this afternoon we received an official statement from Motorola. It’s time to find out what our carriers make of Google’s Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. With Motorola behind the new Nexus 6, and their preference for going straight to retail with their devices, we’re not expecting to see Australian carriers range the Nexus 6. We didn’t expect to see the Nexus 5 either though, and Telstra did surprise us in 2013. HTC on the[Read More...]
