ALDI Mobile isn’t unlimited anymore; now measured in minutes

ALDI Mobile isn’t unlimited anymore; now measured in minutes

Customers of ALDI Mobile, now’s the time to take a seat before you read what we have to tell you. Ready? Good. ALDIMobile, which once looked like the still-shining beacon in the land of ever-decreasing mobile value, with its offerings on the unlimited plan slashed further still. Launching with unlimited voice minutes and SMS and 5GB of data for $35 value, it seems that the failure of ispOne (and by extension, Kogan Mobile) began to take its toll. First, the data inclusion was cut in half — from 5GB down to just 2.5GB. Still, for $35 a month, this amount[Read More...]

[Update] Telstra announces the Nexus 5 on business & personal plans from November 26

[Update] Telstra announces the Nexus 5 on business & personal plans from November 26

After our report last week that Telstra would be selling the Nexus 5, the carrier has officially announced that its stores are expected to have stock of the highly-sought-after device from Tuesday November 26, with online pre-orders open now. It’s worth noting that they’re only offering 16 GB black models of the phone, and will also sell the device outright for $696 – a significant markup over Google’s price of $399, but if you’re in the market for a new device on-contract, you could do much worse. To sweeten the deal, Telstra is also offering customers who pre-order the device[Read More...]

Vodafone Red Roaming – Cost vs Convenience

Vodafone Red Roaming – Cost vs Convenience

As part of the reinvention of their brand, Vodafone recently launched their new “Red” plans which, accompanied by Red Roaming, allow you to roam internationally to over 40 countries using your phone with you number, your SIM and your plan entitlements. The price for this convenience is an extra $5 a day charge while overseas – an effort to curb bill shock for short term overseas travellers. There’s usually a difference between marketing hype and real world experience, so on a recent 2-week trip to New Zealand in October, I took the opportunity to review the service for myself.
