New Moto 360 colour variants show up briefly on Amazon

With the Moto 360 due to hit Australian stores today, it appears that Motorola in the US is about to launch some new options for the watch, including new colours, size and bands. Amazon is the culprit for the latest leak which apparently leaked a number of new options that haven’t been seen previously. The listings have been pulled, but Android Police managed to grab the images from the listings for a champagne (Gold) coloured variant of the Moto 360, as well as a new version with a slightly thinner 18mm watch band. The champagne coloured version also comes with[Read More...]

Lenovo’s purchase of Motorola is now complete – meet Motorola, a Lenovo Company

On the same day that the Motorola built Nexus 6 went on-sale in the US, Motorola and Lenovo have jointly announced that the sale of the company from Google to Lenovo has been completed. The sale of Motorola caught many by surprise when Google announced it back in January, when they had sold Motorola for $2.91 billion. The sale was rumoured to be a bid to quash concerns by Open Handset Alliance manufacturers who saw the relationship between Google and Motorola as a little too close, despite statements that a ‘Firewall’ existed between the two companies. The sale is now[Read More...]

LG G Watch R – reader’s first impressions

LG G Watch R – reader’s first impressions

When the LG G Watch R will launch in Australia is still unknown – it showed up on the LG Australia site a few weeks ago, but LG Australia has so far kept quiet on launch details. We don’t know when the watch will actually arrive, how much it’ll cost or whether we’ll be able to purchase it on Google Play when it does. With the watch now shipping in the UK though, some people couldn’t wait and had the opportunity to have a look at the watch and reader Raph has provided us with some thoughts on his imported[Read More...]

Motorola to possibly release an international version of the Droid Turbo

The announcement today of the Verizon only Motorola Droid Turbo, had many Ausdroid readers dropping us a line in a variety of ways asking about an international release. Unfortunately with Droid branding, that phone is only ever going to be headed to Verizon, but it looks like Motorola may be about to announce an international version – at least in Brazil. According to tecnoblog.net, they’ve received an invite to an event scheduled for November 5th. The invite which doesn’t name any phones specifically, but does feature the rear of a phone which has the same ballistic nylon rear as the[Read More...]

Oppo launches the N3 with motorised rotating camera and the R5 – the worlds thinnest octa-core smartphone

Oppo has announced two new smartphones at an event in Singapore this evening. As expected, they’ve announced the Oppo N3 with its rotating camera module and fingerprint sensor, but as a bonus they also showed off the R5, an ultra-thin phone rocking a 64-bit Octa-core processor. The N3 is the successor to the N1 but Oppo has improved on the camera technology, bumping it up to a 16MP 1/2.3 Omnivision sensor which is motorised and will ‘Automate your panorama shots and track subjects automatically with the rotating camera’. OnePlus issues an apology and schedules another hour long pre-order window

After the hour long pre-order frenzy that hit the OnePlus in the early hours of Tuesday morning was over, there were more than a few dissatisfied customers who missed out. While the results of our poll show that interest in ordering the OnePlus One has waned a little of late. But, there’s still interest and OnePlus is cognizant of that, today on their blog they’ve spoken about the ordering mishaps and also announced a new pre-order window which will hit mid-next month. In the lead up to the pre-order window opening, OnePlus doubled their server capacity to hopefully ensure that[Read More...]

Australian Nexus 6 pre-orders to begin tomorrow on Google Play?

Australian Nexus 6 pre-orders to begin tomorrow on Google Play?

With US pre-orders for the Nexus 6 due to go live in the wee hours of Friday morning, we’ve been wondering whether prospective Australian customers will be included in the fun or not. Google hasn’t actually told us when pre-orders will begin for Australia (but then they seldom do), rumours have put the phone’s release window in December for the UK, while Motorola’s official statement after the launch announcements did say that the phone would be available for pre-orders here before the end of the month. Of course, a pre-order isn’t a promise of delivery by a particular date, either.[Read More...]

Samsung has no current plans to release any new Chromebooks in Australia

When Google first introduced Chromebooks, Samsung, with their manufacturing scale were quickly able to release both Chromebooks, and Chromeboxes. When Google launched Chromebooks in Australia, Samsung were part of the inital launch, offering the Samsung Series 3 – but it’s been quiet on the Chromebook front from Samsung since then with other manufacturers such as Acer, Toshiba and HP apparently taking over the Australian Chromebook market. Samsung hasn’t been resting in the Chromebook market announcing the Chromebook 2 earlier this year, and it has been selling in the US for a few months now. Samsung recently announced they had ceased[Read More...]

OnePlus opened up pre-orders for an hour last night – Did you order one?

OnePlus opened up pre-orders for an hour last night – Did you order one?

After nearly 5 full months of selling their phone using a much derided invite-only system, OnePlus accepted pre-orders for their phone last night – for an hour. Beginning at 2am AEDT, customers who have been champing at the bit to get their hands on the phone, were able to – in theory – pre-order the phone. But as with any launch there were problems. Starting with Paypal, the payment provider that OnePlus used to accept payments for the pre-orders, which apparently had issues with the PayPal risk buyer protection. But it didn’t end there, some customers had issues with responsiveness[Read More...]

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is screamingly fast on the Telstra LTE-A network

This morning Telstra opened their pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and they’ve been talking up how fast the phone will be, with carrier aggregation on their 700MHz and 1800MHz networks since it was announced. But just how fast will the phone be? Well, the answer is REALLY fast. Ausdroid reader @porkfatt tweeted us a picture of a Speedtest run on the Telstra network and we’re quite frankly astounded. Check it out: Boom!!! @Telstra @Ausdroid #ltea #note4 #speedtest pic.twitter.com/oM4wWuom3V — porkfatt (@porkfatt) October 26, 2014 We’re assuming that the phone is an import, due to the fact that the[Read More...]
