Our first look at Android 4.4 came after a Nexus 5 running a supposed build of Android 4.4 was photographed and video’d after being left in a bar, now 9to5Google have received some screenshots of what appears to be updated Message and Phone Apps. The above screenshot was taken from the Google Play listing for the Google Korean IME, the Korean Keyboard supplied by Google. While the screenshot appears to have been removed now, it does show some interesting things, one of which actually marries up with at least one suggested inclusion from a leak that could be a list of Kit Kat specs. Apparently the relationship between Google and Nestlé is pretty tight, with the German arm of the Swiss based multinational food and beverage company advising a Facebook fan of their page that the release for Android 4.4 is expected in October. The response – ‘Hi Tim, Android 4.4 KIT KAT ist ab Oktober verfügbar.’ Translates to – ‘Hi Tim, Android 4.4 KIT KAT is available in October’. Reports are coming in, that an update for the Nexus 7 (2013) is beginning to roll out to the new tablet, which is believed to possibly fix the multi-touch issue some people have been reporting with their new tablet device. The update, JSS15R, doesn’t appear to have any user-facing changes, and it’s only one letter away from the last minor update which rolled out shortly after the initial launch back in June which addressed initial multi-touch issues as well as GPS issues. Google has this morning announced that the next version of Android will be version 4.4 and in keeping with their confectionery themed naming convention it will be called KitKat. Last year at Ausdroid we took the opportunity to approach our three major telecommunications companies – Telstra, Vodafone and Optus – about their software update processes. We had a great talk with Kieran Mcilwain from Vodafone on episode 30 of our podcast and interviewed Craig Ruhan from Telstra. The one carrier we haven’t spoken to is Optus. Android 4.3 leaks for HTC One; download custom ROM now

It seems that HTC are getting ready to release Android 4.3 for their top-of-the-line smartphone, with developer LlabTooFeR teasing a leaked build earlier today. The update brings Android 4.3′s new features such as Bluetooth 4.0 LE support, OpenGL ES 3.0 and WiFi scanning for improved location services. HTC are said to have updated some of their own applications, as well as the system fonts and app drawer. If you have an HTC One with an unlocked boot loader, you can download the new version of the Maximus ROM over at XDA-developers right now.

It’s updates galore for the current line of Nexus devices. In the last couple of days we’ve seen OTA updates begin flowing for the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and http://ausdroid.net/2013/08/22/rumour-security-update-jwr66y-heading-for-the-nexus-10/. Now, overnight another update has begun pushing out to the Nexus 7 (2013) so to keep everyone happy and up to date, Google has released factory images for the entire range of current Nexus devices. The JSS15Q OTA update that is currently rolling out to the Nexus 7(2013) is also apparently fixing the GPS bug that was reported nearly two weeks ago as well.
