Nexus 7 [2013] factory image and binaries now available

Nexus 7 [2013] factory image and binaries now available

After a slightly protracted delay, which saw Jean-Baptiste Queru quit AOSP over legal issues pertaining to the release, both the factory image and the binaries are now available for the Nexus 7 (2013) which has been dubbed “razor”. The build number on the factory image – JSS15J – is slightly above the build number on all the other factory images available for other Nexus devices – JWR66V – on Android 4.3 which leads to questions of exactly what has been changed in the later build, as well as what specifically was the motivation behind the update. Nevertheless the factory image[Read More...]

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 gets an update to Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean)

Well it seems the wait is over for long suffering owners of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7″. It seems that Samsung Australia has finally pushed out Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) update. The update is only available though the Samsung Kies software at the moment, but that doesn’t preclude an OTA update being pushed out at a later – although Samsung Australia has yet to even announce the update, let alone a delivery mechanism for it – so Kies it is for the time being. So far, I can say that the update has brought a heck of a lot[Read More...]

All the OTA Nexus updates and why they are slow to roll out.

All the OTA Nexus updates and why they are slow to roll out.

By now, you either have received your OTA notification to download and update your device to the latest version of Jelly Bean – Android 4.3 (JWR66V) – but there are still some out there who are waiting. The curator of the Android Open Source Project, Jean-Baptiste Quéru has taken to Google+ to explain why the OTA updates for Nexus devices seem to take such a long time to come. Please don’t ask for the ETA of any given OTA. Here’s the deal: OTAs intentionally start very slowly, both in terms of numbers and in terms of timing. The goal is[Read More...]

Android 4.3 Factory Images available to download

After this mornings official announcement of Android 4.3, it appears that Google has released factory images for Android 4.3 for the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 on the Google Developers website. The factory image is Android 4.3 – JWR66V. Which is a slight increment from the leak for the Nexus 4 which appeared last week, which was JWR66N. So, anyone who flashed that build to their device would be advised to flash the newest build to their device. The update will be rolled out to devices from today, however there is usually a protracted wait of[Read More...]

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Announced

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Announced

Google this morning have held a Press Conference in San Francisco where they have announced the new 2013 Nexus 7, Chromecast and Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean), so what’s new in Android 4.3? If you remember when Google announced Android 4.2 last year, they introduced Multi Account Support. With Android 4.3 they have pushed it to a new level by allowing the owner of the Android device to set up restricted profiles. These restricted profiles work in the same way as multi user accounts and include the functionality to remove access to certain features from apps such as in-app purchases, or[Read More...]

T9 dialler finally added to AOSP with Android 4.3

T9 dialler finally added to AOSP with Android 4.3

Normally, one small feature of a new version of Android wouldn’t deserve a post of its own, but this has been a huge issue that many people have had with AOSP for a long time. In fact, while there are other benefits to custom ROMs, the lack of a T9 dialler in AOSP builds is the single factor, for me, that necessitates the use of CyanogenMod (or equivalent). The only Android phones that don’t ship with a T9 predictive dialler are Google’s Nexus devices. As custom and OEM ROMs have had this ability since the dawn of time, I honestly[Read More...]

Telstra confirms Samsung will skip Android 4.2.2 update on Samsung Galaxy Note II in favour of next version of Android

Yesterdays Telstra software update blog has indeed confirmed this with Craig Ruhan from Telstra posting the following update for the Galaxy Note II : Samsung have elected globally to skip the 4.2.2 update for this device and will instead go to a newer version of Android. No schedule has been provided for this update. With Android 4.3 having leaked for the Nexus 4 and Galaxy S4 Google Play edition so[Read More...]

Android 4.3 now ‘unofficially’ available for the Nexus 4

Android 4.3 now ‘unofficially’ available for the Nexus 4

The announcement this morning, of an event at Google next Wednesday – Thursday AEST – is rumoured to be the event where Android 4.3 is officially announced – along with a new Nexus 7 and possibly the Moto X. But instead of having to wait for the inevitably slow rollout of Android 4.3 to your Nexus 4, there is both a TWRP Recovery backup as well as a System Dump floating around the internet. The build number is JWR66N – the same as was seen leaked for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition – with the J indicating that[Read More...]

Rumour: Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III skipping Android 4.2.2

Rumour: Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III skipping Android 4.2.2

According to an “insider”, Temefy is reporting that Samsung are debating whether or not two of their devices are going to get Jellybean 4.2.2 as an official update. The devices in question? Oh, only the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II. Fear not, however! The debate boils down to whether they should bother with 4.2.2, or simply update these devices straight to 4.3. This rumour comes following a recent delay for the Galaxy S III moving to 4.2.2, while the Note II has been stagnant for some time with no indication of Samsung’s intentions for software updates. The current[Read More...]
