Nexus 9: Did you order one on launch day?

With the Nexus 9 now available to purchase in Australia via the Play Store, and with some of Ausdroid’s guys waking up at an ungodly hour to partake, we want to know: did you order the Nexus 9 on launch day as well? Some of us are on the fence – myself included – whereas others have already taken the plunge. Daniel and Jason have jumped right in and pre-ordered. Daniel says the Nexus 9 is the definitive Android Lollipop reference device, being the first Android device (tablet or phone) available with a 64-bit processor, allowing the true power of[Read More...]

Nexus 9 benchmarked could possibly run faster

Nexus 9 benchmarked could possibly run faster

The Nexus 9 is one of the ‘true’ reference builds for Android Lollipop, given that it’s the first Nexus device to contain a 64-bit processor, thanks to the Nvidia Tegra K1 ‘Denver’ SoC at its heart. The tablet is supposed to be fast and it appears that someone has run the tablet through benchmark site Geekbench. The tablet scores a fairly impressive single core score of 1,903, which stacks up amazingly against a Galaxy Tab S at just 910. Primate Labs founder John Poole offered up a more compelling comparison, stating on Twitter that it puts it on par with[Read More...]

Nvidia promises Shield Tablet will receive Android Lollipop

Nvidia promises Shield Tablet will receive Android Lollipop

Manufacturers are beginning to announce plans for their handsets, tablets and other devices now that Google has officially launched Android Lollipop. HTC and Motorola were quick to announce their plans and now Nvidia has announced that the newly announced Shield Tablet will receive the update as well. It’s not terribly surprising given the tablet is less than 2 months old, and the average life span for updates on an Android device is 18 months. Still, many Nvidia Shield owners will celebrate this tweet: Android 5.0 Lollipop and more is coming to NVIDIA SHIELD tablet. pic.twitter.com/yOGKRuOoRk — NVIDIA (@nvidia) October 16,[Read More...]

Nexus 9 Camera Samples and video hands-on show up

Nexus 9 Camera Samples and video hands-on show up

I`m moving to Vietnam. After we just saw the Nexus 9 and Keyboard Folio case in the wild thanks to a Vietnamese site, another has come forward to show off a video with Android Lollipop running on the HTC built tablet and provide camera samples as well. The video mainly focuses on showing off the hardware, but moves on to show the operator using the tablet to access the menu, various websites and apps. There are sneak peaks at parts of the tablet including an angle which shows that the camera on the tablet appears to have the same raised[Read More...]

Nexus 9 and keyboard cover show up in the wild looking productive

The HTC built Nexus 9 has been shown off in renders all day today, but a Vietnamese site has managed to get their hands on the tablet and the coveted folio keyboard case as well. The photos showed up on Vietnamese forum Techrum, where forum user tdiddy-2 posted a bunch of pictures of the tablet which show it off both in and out of the keyboard case. The keyboard folio case, which will act as a smart cover attaches to the rear of the Nexus 9 using magnets and seems to fit in there quite comfortably. Afixing the case to[Read More...]

Which Australian carriers will offer the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9?

Which Australian carriers will offer the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9?

We’ve been doing the legwork today talking to manufacturers, carriers and retailers trying to find out Australian launch information for Google’s shiny new Nexus devices. Earlier this afternoon we received an official statement from Motorola. It’s time to find out what our carriers make of Google’s Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. With Motorola behind the new Nexus 6, and their preference for going straight to retail with their devices, we’re not expecting to see Australian carriers range the Nexus 6. We didn’t expect to see the Nexus 5 either though, and Telstra did surprise us in 2013. HTC on the[Read More...]
