Nexus 7 (2013) set for early September retail launch in Australia

We’ve been inundated with requests for information on the Australian launch of the Nexus 7(2013). Asus themselves have referred all enquiries regarding the Nexus 7 to Google, and Google – as usual – has remained silent on the matter. We’ve received confirmation from both a source within Asus and various Australian Retailers and Asus Re-Sellers, who have been busily checking since the announcement, that stock of the tablet will be available in early September. While no details on which of the three models – 16/32GB Wifi & 32Gb LTE – will be available at launch, nor any pricing at this[Read More...]

JB HiFi selling the Asus FonePad 3G for $298

JB HiFi are offering the Asus FonePad 3G 7″ tablet for $298. Quite a good price considering the price was due to be $329 when it was to be launched just last month. The oversized phone/tablet is a pretty large device for some, but the largish device offers a unique take on the 7″ tablet form factor. Just in case you have forgotten what the FonePad was packing, here are the details: 7″ LED Backlight WXGA (1280×800) Screen IPS Panel Intel Atom Z2420 1.2 GHz CPU 1Gb RAM 8 GB internal storage, 5GB Life Time ASUS Webstorage Space 3 MP Rear Camera auto[Read More...]

New Nexus 7 shows up with colourful new packaging

New Nexus 7 shows up with colourful new packaging

It seems that at least one lucky user has received a new Nexus 7 and has shown it off on Reddit. The pictures supplied show the Nexus 7 will come in a brightly coloured box, a departure from the subdued greys of last years Nexus packaging of the Nexus 4, 7 and 10. Unfortunately, it appears the original poster or OP has not updated the post, indeed they have deleted their name from the post and no updates have been added after OP promised further shots. Private Messages to the user name displayed in the pictures have so far gone[Read More...]

New Nexus 7 shown off again in a new gallery

New Nexus 7 shown off again in a new gallery

If you´re a Nexus fan like me then this last couple of days has been pretty exciting, the invitation to press to a Google event on Wednesday – Thursday AEST – the retail information, specs leaking and finally the Press shots released this morning by @evleaks, but there´s more. Android Police has just posted a gallery of lightly water-marked pics of the new Asus built Nexus 7, which shows it off from just about every angle you could possibly want, you can see the cameras – front and rear, speakers and of course that oddly horizontal Nexus logo on the[Read More...]

Breathe New Life Into Your Nexus 7

Breathe New Life Into Your Nexus 7

The Nexus 7, when first released, was an amazing device.  It was perfect in size (for me), running stock Android and blazingly fast.  While the first two are still true, the last one not so much in many cases.  What was once a quick, lag-free tablet has for many users become a tablet with near unbearable lag making many put it aside for a different tablet.  If you are like me and treading water waiting for the Nexus 7 MkII to be released you will have tried all types of different custom ROMs and an arrangement of other fixes trying[Read More...]

Samsung looking to take on the Asus PadFone?

Samsung looking to take on the Asus PadFone?

A report from ZD Net Korea on the weekend showed that a new Samsung Patent (D685, 774 – Volt 9) had received acceptance through the U.S Patent and Trademark Office. The patent that was approved was for a “wireless communication terminal”. Looking at the figures, it seems to be a close match for the design of the Asus PadFone, although the Samsung device appears to use a more a “T-shaped” design which allows the phone to be easily docked within the tablet. It also seems the tablet will be standalone, and only the user will know that the tablet is being powered[Read More...]

Rumour:The Nexus 7 MkII Should Be Here….Today?

Rumour:The Nexus 7 MkII Should Be Here….Today?

It’s now been a full year since the Nexus 7 was announced and Google began taking orders via Google Play.  While it has served many of us admirably some feel that it has become apparent that with the release of other 7 and 8″ tablets a successor is required for it to maintain the top of the heap of the compact Android tablet pile. We have reported on various leaks and hints of a new version being available soon but there is still no definite word of a release from either Google or Asus, nor any other tablet manufacturer. An expected announcement at Google[Read More...]

Asus Fonepad – first impressions

Asus Fonepad – first impressions

Since the debut of the iPhone in 2007, phones have been steadily larger, with phones like Samsung’s Galaxy Note blurring the line between phones and tablets. Asus are a manufacturer who excel in building devices that serve multiple purposes, like their phone-tablet hybrid, the PadFone. Asus’ most successful mobile device to date, however, has been its most conventional – the Nexus 7, built to Google’s specifications. The Fonepad is very similar to the Nexus 7, but differs in some key ways – rather than the NVidia Tegra 3 that powers the Nexus 7, the Fonepad runs an Intel Atom processor;[Read More...]
