Huawei Ascend G6 — Review

Huawei Ascend G6 — Review

Huawei has been evolving in front of our eyes for the last couple of years. Bit by bit, device by device, the Chinese manufacturer has been releasing handsets designed to appeal to a more upmarket customer than some of the bargain-basement handsets we’ve seen them deliver in the past. Until recently, a Huawei handset has meant “cheap and cheerful” – device construction nobody would write home about, average internals and – most egregiously for those of us in capital cities who like our data connectivity – 3G-only. Last year’s Ascend P6 marked a turning point for the company, though. Huawei’s[Read More...]

Huawei Ascend G6 coming to Vodafone, Optus and retail stores in June

Huawei Ascend G6 coming to Vodafone, Optus and retail stores in June

Huawei hosted an event in Sydney this morning to announce the Australian launch of the Ascend G6 smartphone, coming to Australian retailers as well as on-contract at Optus from June 2, and Vodafone from June 11. This was a bit of a surprise given the overnight launch of the Asend P7 in Paris (it took a while to realise I wasn’t looking at the P7 once I arrived at the event), but Huawei’s Australian staff were apologetic for the confusion and assured us we’d be seeing the P7 and other products in good time. The Ascend G6 borrows from Huawei’s[Read More...]

Huawei announce the Ascend P7 a 4G LTE phone for everyone

Huawei has just held their global launch for their latest flagship phone – the Ascend P7 – at an event in Paris. While we’ll be getting hands-on and a presentation about the phone tomorrow at their Sydney event, we thought you’d like to see a preview of what to expect. Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group launched the phone, where he described the phone as a combination of great design, camera and connectivity. Today, the launch of Huawei Ascend P7 once again challenges existing industry standards by redefining smartphone design, camera experience, and connectivity, to provide people with an[Read More...]

Huawei set to launch the Ascend P7 in Australia next week?

May is just getting busier and busier for Android launches. We’ve just received an invite to the Australian launch of the latest handset from Huawei. This is of course most likely to be referencing the Huawei Ascend P7. The event is scheduled for next Thursday morning, where we hope to learn all about the new phone. The phone will be launched in Paris a day earlier on May 7th, but we should get all the local launch details at the Australian launch. Huawei has been teasing the launch of the P7 over the last few days on their Twitter account,[Read More...]

Huawei Ascend P7 specs leaked – same design as the P6

If you’re a Huawei fan, yes they exist, then you’ll be interested in the leak of new specs for the upcoming Ascend P6 replacement, imaginatively named the Ascend P7. Serial leaker @EvLeaks has posted a list of specs through Twitter which also advises that the design has essentially not changed from the P6. The tweet which was sent out late on Thursday night lists the Kirin 910T chipset clocked at 1.8GHz as opposed to the 1.6GHz seen previously in benchmarks. https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/459329950932561921 The Ascend P7 is expected to be announced officially on the 7th of May. Google mandating that ‘powered by Android’ logo to appear on boot-up screen

Google mandating that ‘powered by Android’ logo to appear on boot-up screen

Android Central recently noticed that the Samsung Galaxy S5 boot-up screen had one curious addition to the screen, in the form of a somewhat large ‘Powered by Android’ logo appearing on the bottom of the screen. This also seemed the case for the recently launched HTC One (M8) smartphone as well. There has been a fair bit of speculation that this latest addition to the boot-up screen was the result of a meeting between Google and leading Android manufacturers. However, it now seems this is part of a much larger plan currently playing out. According to an email confirmed by[Read More...]

[MWC 2014] Huawei announces two MediaPad tablets, the Ascend G6 and their smartband

[MWC 2014] Huawei announces two MediaPad tablets, the Ascend G6 and their smartband

Huawei has kicked off proceedings at MWC launching the first new devices at their press event just prior to the official launch of the trade show and just as their teaser suggested, there’s a phone, two tablets, a Cat6 LTE hotspot and something that wasn’t in the teaser, a smartband which can double as a phone. Talkband B1 Starting off with the smartband, which Huawei have named the TalkBand B1. The surprisingly thick – 14.6mm to be precise – smartband consists of a 1.4″ flexible OLED display mounted on what appears to be a rubberised band. The screen hides a[Read More...]

Huawei Mediapad X1 Tablet and Ascend G6 Smartphone leak ahead of MWC

Huawei has been teasing their MWC offerings for a week or so now, including a less than fantastic video teaser, and it appears that two of the devices have now been leaked ahead of the official launch. First up is the Huawei Ascend G6 Smartphone. The Ascend G6 has appeared on Twitter courtesy of @evleaks showing off the phone in 5 colours – Blue, Gold, Pink, White and Black – with capacative buttons and the Huawei custom Android skin Emotion UI. https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/436623851183964162 Specs for the phone indicate that it will most likely slot into the mid-range of whatever Huawei’s 2014[Read More...]

Huawei releases teaser for Mobile World Congress using video of a Siri clone

Huawei releases teaser for Mobile World Congress using video of a Siri clone

Huawei will once again be at Mobile World Congress and according to the invite to their press event, they released last night on Social Media they intend to ‘amaze the world again’. https://twitter.com/HuaweiDevice/status/435342582504095745/ While the invite itself gives time, date and location of the press event, they have followed up with a video teaser of what people can expect from the launch – basically a phone and tablet, with emphasis on multimedia, large battery, support for next-gen LTE and yet again an emphasis on a high quality ‘Selfie’ camera on the front. The video itself uses a clone of the[Read More...]
