Google releases Android distribution figures for March 2014

Luckily these weren't released yesterday. Google has released the Android distribution figures for March 2014 based on Android devices running Android 2.2 accessing Google Play in the 7-day period ending on April 1, 2014. So, how does it look? Well, as far as getting devices up towards the most current version of Android, the news is good. Froyo, Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich all experienced dips in their distribution on devices. It's that time again, time to check the distribution of Android versions on hardware throughout the eco-system. January Android numbers show slow growth in Kit Kat while Gingerbread use continues to drop

A new year, a new month and that must mean that Google has released the latest figures for Android device platform numbers. The statistics were as usual taken from a 7-Day sample leading up to the 4th of February. The numbers haven't shown any drastic changes over the last month. Android 4.4 has grown from being on 1.4% of devices in December to 1.8% of devices last month. Sony advises further updates for a host of older Xperia phones will not be coming

All good things must come to an end, and so it is for Android updates to older model phones. Sony has updated the support pages for a range of their older model Xperia handsets noting that their build is the final version, meaning that owners should begin either accepting the final version of their software build or begin looking at the ROM community. Android Distribution figures for December shows Jelly Bean use still growing

It's late this month, but it seems the statisticians are back at work at Google and have released the latest Android Device Distribution figures for the period ending January 8th. This data is accumulated from devices using the Google Play App on Android which of course is only supported from Android 2.2 and upwards, but Google advised that devices running earlier version accounted for less than 1% in August last year. The start of a new month has brought us the latest figures for Android distribution and with the release of Kit Kat on the Nexus 5 and to other Nexus devices we can begin to get a feel for how many devices are running the latest version of Android. October Android platform distribution numbers released – Jelly Bean reaches 50% of devices

A new month, a new version of Android and now we get to review the last months worth of Android distribution, while we won't see any numbers regarding Android 4.4 until next month, we can look at the rest of the Android eco-system. The good news is that Android 4.1-4.3 is now over 50% meaning that over 500 Million Android devices are now running Android 4.1 or greater. Select State Electoral Commissions are going Android

The NSW State electoral commission has gone Android, at least they will be, if a tender lodged with the NSW e-Tender website is correct. The tender from the State Electoral office is for the fulfillment of an order of between 5,000 and 5,900 Android tablets that will be used in the three Electoral Commissions of NSW, Queensland and Victoria. The Android Developer dashboard has been updated with the latest platform version statistics for September. Jellybean is taking over, not as quickly as Android purists would like but it now commands an healthy 48.6% of thee Android distribution numbers across the three versions currently available to consumers (4.1.x,4.2.x and 4.3) which, given the enormity of the Android platform is a significant growth in install base over last months 45.1% marketshare. BBM for Android coming September 21, iPhones on September 22

After a protracted leak filled lead-up, BlackBerry have early this morning formally announced that BlackBerry Messenger(BBM) will be launching on Android devices running Android 4.0 and above as a free download from Google Play just after Midnight on September 21, with iOS devices getting access to BBM the next day. July Android distribution numbers released

It's a new month and that means that Google has released the figures for the distribution of Android across devices, based on the versions of devices that accessed Google Play in the 14 days leading up to and ending on August 1st. With not much time to truly take into account the numbers for Android 4.3, it appears to have been left off the list this month, but we can surely see what happens when the August stats are released next month. Android Distribution numbers for June released – Jelly Bean finally king

The numbers for June are in and it's finally looking a little better for Jelly Bean; the combined total of devices running Android 4.1 or above shows that 37.9% of devices have a taste of Project Butter and with Android 4.2.2 rolling out to the HTC One worldwide now, it should cause a slight increase next month in the 4.2 numbers hopefully. In this months numbers, Google has also finally combined the numbers for Gingerbread iterations into one total and this month all the devices running Android 2.3 number 34.1%.
