Which Australian carriers will offer the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9?

We’ve been doing the legwork today talking to manufacturers, carriers and retailers trying to find out Australian launch information for Google’s shiny new Nexus devices. Earlier this afternoon we received an official statement from Motorola. It’s time to find out what our carriers make of Google’s Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. With Motorola behind the new Nexus 6, and their preference for going straight to retail with their devices, we’re not expecting to see Australian carriers range the Nexus 6. We didn’t expect to see the Nexus 5 either though, and Telstra did surprise us in 2013. HTC on the[Read More...]

Optus is moving forward with their 4G Plus network, today announcing that they’ve enabled LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation on their 2300MHz TDD LTE-A network around Australia, with Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide users connected to the network the first to see the bump, and Canberra users to follow in the coming weeks. Carrier Aggregation allows Optus to combine the two 20MHz channels they operate in the 2300Mhz spectrum to offer speeds of up to 220Mbps. While the top speed is nice, you probably won’t quite get that with other users on the network, but Optus has seen speeds of up to[Read More...]

Optus announces new prepaid mobile offerings – only pay for what you use

Optus announces new prepaid mobile offerings – only pay for what you use

Optus has released new prepaid mobile plans starting at just $1 per day, with the added bonus that users only pay for days that they actually use. For most of us, this doesn’t offer too much, as we use our phones all the time, but for those more infrequent users it could be a bit of a way to save some money. Marketed as “Don’t use, don’t pay”, Optus says the new My Prepaid Daily gives users the freedom to pay only for days they use their phones, and great value when they do. At just $1 per day, users[Read More...]

Samsung Tab S tablets now available via Optus

Samsung Tab S tablets now available via Optus

When Samsung announced the new Galaxy Tab S range a little while ago, we knew it wouldn’t be long before they’d be available on a range of carrier repayment plans, and it seems that Optus has done just that today. Jason went hands on with a pre-release version of the 10.5″ variant of the Galaxy Tab S earlier in July 2014, and seemed to be pretty impressed with it. What makes the Tab S range so cool? This range is slim and light, reminiscent of the iPad Air. Power in a thin case. Multi-window functionality allows you to use more than[Read More...]
