Ausdroid Podcast 119 – Special guest, @evleaks

Welcome to episode 119 of the Ausdroid podcast! This week’s podcast was graced with the presence of an extra voice, coming to us from the USA – Evan Blass, perhaps better known as @evleaks to the Internet at large. We managed to get past the language barrier and found we could all understand each other pretty well, then spent a while talking with Evan about his work and some rumoured upcoming devices. It seems that Samsung and Sony have new phones coming, and Motorola might have a NEXS device coming (hopefully you’ll all see what I did there). Evan suffers[Read More...]

Motorola Razr M and Razr HD scheduled to receive Android 4.4.2 update in August

Motorola Razr M and Razr HD scheduled to receive Android 4.4.2 update in August

The update to Android 4.4 for the Motorola Razr M and Razr HD has been a long awaited by Australian owners, ever since Motorola announced the KitKat update for US models last November. But the wait is apparently almost over, with the Australian Motorola Support page now showing the update listed as due to receive an update to Android 4.4.2. While the Razr M and Razr HD support page gives no dates for the update, it’s been saying the 4.4.2 update was coming for a while, the Motorola Razr M and Razr HD was also sold on Telstra, and this[Read More...]

Fitbit has just announced to it’s Beta tester group that the App available through the Google Play store is now supporting Sync support for selected Nexus and Motorola devices. The v1.8.4 of the Fitbit App from Google Play will support Sync on the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and Nexus 7 v2 as well as the Moto X – all US Variants – as well as the Verizon Motorola Droid RAZR handsets (RAZR M, RAZR HD, RAZR HD MAXX) providing they have received the November 2013 firmware update which resolves BLE support. They have also advised that the Verizon Droid Ultra[Read More...]

Good Deal: Telstra puts Motorola’s RAZR M on sale for $199

Good Deal: Telstra puts Motorola’s RAZR M on sale for $199

Looking for a cheap Android handset? Telstra is selling the white version of Motorola‘s year-old RAZR M at its online store for just $199. While the HTC One, Galaxy S4 and Xperia Z1 have pushed baseline Android handset specifications forward this year, the RAZR M still stands as a real attempt by Motorola to bring some power to the smaller handset form factor — it’s just a shame that it’s now last year’s definition of “power”. I was quite fond of it when I reviewed it last year. Telstra’s sale – exclusive to the carrier’s online store – follows Dick[Read More...]

Will Motorola’s RAZR M & RAZR HD phones see a KitKat update in Australia?

Will Motorola’s RAZR M & RAZR HD phones see a KitKat update in Australia?

It’s update day for Motorola, and today’s updates may contain a welcome surprise for owners of their 2012 flagships, the RAZR HD and RAZR M. Stateside, Motorola released a KitKat update for the Moto X, making it the first Android OEM to do so, and it’s even beaten the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 and HTC One devices to the punch. Contrary to earlier reports, Motorola’s support site is today showing that the HD & M handsets will see an update to KitKat. This is a little surprising as both devices stopped receiving updates after Android 4.1 Jelly Bean rollout[Read More...]

Motorola RAZR M — Auction

Motorola RAZR M — Auction

Today we’re doing something a little different. We have a Motorola RAZR M, which we’ve held for the last six months or so following our review of this great little phone last year. This is just one of a number of phones which graces Ausdroid’s storage cupboard and it’s time to make some space. As this is one of the devices we’ve purchased, rather than received as a freebie to review, we’d like to recover a little bit of our outlay (we paid $600 for this RAZR M), but we also want to do a bit of good. So, we’re[Read More...]

Motorola extends the $100 cashback for RAZR M

Motorola extends the $100 cashback for RAZR M

Earlier in the year, perhaps facing increased competition in the mid-range handset market, Motorola announced that it would offer a $100 rebate to those who purchased the Motorola RAZR M through Telstra. This ran from February to 31 March, and I can only imagine it was a somewhat popular promotion. Why? Because Motorola have told Ausdroid that they’ll be doing this again! From today until 1 July 2013 (or until stocks last) Motorola will be again offering a $100 rebate to those purchasing the Telstra version of the Motorola RAZR M — either outright, or on a plan. Claiming the[Read More...]

Motorola RAZR M — Jelly Bean Update — OS Review

Motorola RAZR M — Jelly Bean Update — OS Review

From the moment I finished watching the Livestream of the RAZR M launch I knew I wanted to get my hands on this phone. I loved the idea of a smaller, more manageable size phone with a display that was still big enough for my man-sized fingertips. The 3.5in display on my 4th Gen iPod is genuinely difficult for me to manage. My Nexus S at 4.0in was even a bit small, especially with typing. Having owned a Galaxy S II, I knew that a 4.3in display would be my ideal minimum. After only a few days it became obvious[Read More...]

Winner of Motorola RAZR M ™ competition announced

A week ago, entries closed in our Motorola RAZR M ™ competition. We asked you to tell us, in 25 words or less, what made you faster, smarter or stronger, and boy oh boy did we receive a tonne of entries — just under 600 in fact. The team and I have been flat chat reviewing entries, posting news and doing general Ausdroid things, so unfortunately it’s taken us a little while to get to this point, but here we go. First prize has been awarded to Alex D. of New South Wales, for his entry: Not allowing my disABILITY[Read More...]
