Samsung begins pushing Android 4.4 out to Galaxy S4 handsets

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is no longer the flagship phone for Samsung, but the phone still sold in massive numbers and we’ve been expecting Android 4.4 for the handset for a while, now Samsung has begun pushing the Android 4.4 update out for the Galaxy S4. We’ve been advised by a reader that their Optus GT-i9507 model is now receiving the 440MB update which takes the phone from Android 4.3 up to the current version of Android (4.4) – at least current for the next couple of weeks until Google releases Android L. The Firmware update: I9507XXUFNG2 – includes a[Read More...]

Samsung’s power sharing cable launches for $19.99

Samsung’s power sharing cable launches for $19.99

We’ve all been caught short before — there’s nothing worse than being on the go with a flat gadget, and it’s made all the worse if you’ve got something else nearby that’s got full battery, but you can’t share it. Right? Wrong. Samsung wants you to be able to charge your devices from its mobile and tablet devices, and has released a new micro-USB ‘Power Sharing Cable’ for just $US 19.99. Using the cable, and the companion Power Sharing app (available on Google Play or via Samsung Apps), users can specify how much of their device charge they’re prepared to[Read More...]

Samsung slides the Galaxy Alpha and Gear Live into JB Hifi

Samsung’s announced their new direction in design with the Galaxy Alpha, aiming at a premium metal chasis, paired with the distinctive Galaxy design stylings they’ve evolved since their introduction. Now the Galaxy Alpha is available from JB Hifi and it’s brought a friend along for the ride, with the Android Wear toting Gear Live smartwatch arriving as well. Although the Galaxy Alpha was due on the 1st of October, it appears that most JB Hifi stores are only just beginning to receive their inventory now. Some stores range from a single unit through to others who have quite a few.[Read More...]

Samsung Galaxy S5 shown off with working build of Android L

Samsung Galaxy S5 shown off with working build of Android L

Samsung has been relatively good at updating their flagship devices to the latest version of Android soon after release, and it’s expected that once Android L is released, the Galaxy S5 and Note 4 – as well as other top shelf devices – should see it soon after. Samsung is apparently already working on an Android L version of their UI, possibly through access to the Partner Development Kit, and Sammobile has shown off an eight minute walkthrough of Android L on a Galaxy S5 for your viewing pleasure. The video shows off a Galaxy S5 running Android L build:[Read More...]

Galaxy Note 4 gets unboxed

Galaxy Note 4 gets unboxed

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is coming, it’s out there in a few review circles already so here come the unboxing videos. The 5.7″ QHD display is a highlight that everyone who’s handled the device at various display shows always mention as well as the consistency of the Samsung design of the phone; making it instantly a familiar and comfortable feeling device to someone who’s had a Samsung Galaxy device in the past. Of course in the current market state, what’s a large phone unboxing without a mention that the phone feels “solid” or “sturdy”? It’s close to the undisputed[Read More...]

Samsung has begun pushing out Android 4.4 to the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition)

Long suffering owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) are beginning to report receiving a notification to update their tablet to Android 4.4. Thanks to reader Anthony who sent us the information, it appears that the tablet is receiving firmware update P600XXUCNH3. The update, which clocks in at over 500MB in size, takes the tablet from Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) which the tablet shipped with, up to Android 4.4.2. The update brings about a few changes including lockscreen shortcuts, the transparent notification panel, updates to S Pen and associated apps and of course the ever famous Bug Fixes[Read More...]

Eyes-on with Samsung’s Gear VR

Eyes-on with Samsung’s Gear VR

Samsung held their “Notable Innovation” launch event on Tuesday night, revealing launch details for the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and Gear VR. It’s the latter unit that we’re focusing on here, and I’m pretty excited about it. It seems a bit unfair to the hype storm created every time Samsung releases new Note products, but it feels like the Gear VR stole the show on Tuesday night, with the main stage dominated by two demo units running an Australian-shot Great Barrier Reef 3D demo video. The main stage was flanked by a couple of additional units on either[Read More...]

6-inch behemoth, Galaxy Mega 2 now showing on Samsung’s Thai website

6-inch behemoth, Galaxy Mega 2 now showing on Samsung’s Thai website

The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 has begun showing on Samsung’s Thai website. The presence on the website could possibly indicate a launch in Australia before the end of the year. The original Samsung Galaxy Mega came in two sizes, 5.8 and 6.3-inch, and were originally available as import only, before JB Hi-Fi started selling the 6.3″ variety in August last year for around $600. Jason reviewed the 6.3 version and had mixed feelings about the device due to the 720p screen, size and performance. The Galaxy Mega 2 on the other hand is slightly smaller with a 6-inch 720p display[Read More...]
