The two pieces of Android Wear currently available on the market – the LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live – are both receiving an Over-The-Air update at the moment. After announcing their new premium line of Galaxy Tablets to the world last month in New York, Samsung Australia has today opened up about their plans for the tablets here in Australia. While the tablets will be released in Wi-Fi as well as 4G versions, only the WiFi models will go on-sale on the 14th of July. The WiFi models will be available for pre-order from the Samsung Experience Stores in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as online through the Samsung E-store. Thanks to some friendlies on the inner circle, I managed to get my hands on a Samsung Gear Live Android Wear smartwatch ahead of next week’s shipments. It’s rather cool. The Gear Live has a 300 mAh battery behind a 1.63-inch 320×320 Super AMOLED display. It’s got 512MB RAM, 4GB storage and is run by a 1.2 Ghz processor. Samsung’s Gear Live Android Wear smartwatch is now live and available to purchase directly from the Play Store for a mere $250 + delivery. Based on the info showing on the Play Store, deliveries are to leave Google’s warehouse (probably in Hong Kong if previous deliveries are a reliable guide) by Monday 7 July. Ordering today, therefore, could see you with a Gear Live in your hands by Tuesday or Wednesday next week. After this morning being officially announced, the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live are now showing in the Australian Google Play store. While both pieces of Android Wear are showing, there’s a catch. The Samsung Gear Live does not appear ready for release as yet, with the watch listed as ‘Coming Soon’. After announcing Android Wear back in April, Google today took the wraps off their Android Wear plans and took everyone through the interface, and showed exactly what Android Wear can do. David Singleton, Director of Engineering, Android took the stage to show off the new system. He said that Style is important – square and circular screens are used to give choice. Android Wear is about Sensors, fitness Goals and giving intelligent answers to spoken questions – something that is key in a multi-sceen world. The Gear, Gear 2, Gear Fit, are all now Tizen based, but Samsung isn’t quite ready to go it completely alone in the Smartwatch world, with a report from C-Net stating that they will launch an Android Wear Smartwatch at Google I/O next week. Samsung’s scattershot approach to releasing phones in multiple sizes and configurations, certainly came up a winner with their Galaxy Note series of phones and this September at IFA in Germany, we expect to see the fourth iteration.
