LG Optimus G — Review

LG Optimus G — Review

Is the Optimus G just the Nexus 4 with LTE, or something better? LG has struggled in the last few years with their smartphone attempts, but since the release of the L Series as pre-paid offerings, they’ve begun to show signs of life in the Australian market. Last year they took the number two pre-paid manufacturer spot, showing a strong intention to reign supreme in the Australian market. The Australian launch of the Optimus G as a post-paid (on-contract) device on the Telstra 4G network marks their return as a premium quality, high end brand in the Australian mobile landscape.[Read More...]

Next-generation Nexus 7 could ditch NVIDIA in favour of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro

Next-generation Nexus 7 could ditch NVIDIA in favour of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro

It looks like NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 won’t be making an appearance in the next-generation Nexus 7. At least, according to ZD Net who are citing Pacific Crest analyst Michael McConnell. So why the change from NVIDIA to Qualcomm? Well, although Tegra 4 is quite powerful, it doesn’t have an integrated 3G/4G modem. Instead there’s a separate modem which will ultimately bump up the cost slightly. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro (APQ8064), however, has its 3G/4G modem built right into the chip — making it the more attractive choice for Google. The S4 Pro can also hold its own in terms of[Read More...]

HTC Deluxe render leaks, 1080P international phone?

HTC Deluxe render leaks, 1080P international phone?

We’ve been watching with keen interest the leaks regarding a 5″ 1080P phone from HTC for a fair while now, we saw the J Butterfly announced in Japan a few weeks ago and just the other day the US version the Droid DNA was announced for Verizon. Now EVLeaks has released this picture with the tag ‘HTC Deluxe, global edition’. Unfortunately the only information in the tweet was the name and no specifications at this stage, although if the J Butterfly and Droid DNA are anything to go by we`ll see a Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB Internal[Read More...]

Ausdroid goes hands-on with the LG Nexus 4

Ausdroid goes hands-on with the LG Nexus 4

I was in Sydney yesterday to take advantage of an invitation from LG Australia. I met with Brad Reed, Senior Marketing Manager – Mobile Communications, Content and Applications and Josh Corin, Local Product Manager – Mobile Communications. We spoke for some time about some upcoming products – the Nexus 4, Optimus G, and the L-Series (which is currently on-sale). The interview included a chance to spend some quality time with the Nexus 4. LG has spent a while off the beaten path – so to speak – with their phone offerings. Recently however, the company has made an effort to[Read More...]

Xiaomi Mi 2 announced will run MIUI custom Android ROM

Xiaomi Mi 2 announced will run MIUI custom Android ROM

If you’ve been around the Android modding community for a while you’ll be aware of MIUI the customisable AOSP ROM which originates in China, you’ll also be aware that last year they announced and released the Xiaomi MI-One a dial core phone which also ran MIUI. They’ve just announced the successor the MI2 which from the looks of things is a monster at least hardware wise. It does seem to sport capacative buttons on the front rather than the software buttons from ICS and Jelly Bean but some people are dead-set against software buttons. Specs : Quad-Core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4[Read More...]
