Sony Smartwatch 3 SWR50 available from Expansys for $337

We’ve received a tip this afternoon that Expansys is offering the Sony Smartwatch 3 — that’s right, the Android Wear powered watch from Sony — for $337. Factor in about $18 in shipping and you’re looking at the latest Android Wear watch for a shade over $355 AU. If you’re interested, Australian residents can make the purchase here, and our Kiwi friends can do so on Expansys’ NZ website. We haven’t heard too much, just yet, about when or if Sony will be bringing the Smartwatch 3 to Australia on official terms. It seems likely, but we just don’t know. For[Read More...]

Sony Smartwatch 3 stainless steel band shows up in leaked image

Sony Smartwatch 3 stainless steel band shows up in leaked image

We heard at the Sony Xperia Z3 launch event that Sony would be releasing a stainless steel band for the Smartwatch 3, and this could be it. The above image popped up in a thread at XDA Developers a couple of weeks ago, but escaped wider notice until this week. The poster promises it’s real, but you can make your own mind up about that (there’s a confidential stamp/watermark on it and everything!). The structure isn’t a huge departure from the other bands Sony’s got up its sleeve for the Smartwatch 3, which allows you to pop the main watch[Read More...]

My Tracks adds Android Wear support – removes sharing options

My Tracks adds Android Wear support – removes sharing options

After Google announced an update for Google Earth this morning, which included an option to now upload KML files directly, it reminded me I hadn’t looked at Google’s Activity tracking app, My Tracks in a while. Loading it up, it appears the app got an update recently which added a great feature but removed one at the same time. Listed under the ‘What’s New’ section of the Google Play description is the good and bad news, as you can see Google has removed sharing to other apps on the phone, but added Android Wear support : support Android Wear remove[Read More...]

Sony adds Xperia Z1 and Z2 as well as the Xperia M2 to AOSP for Xperia on GitHub

Sony is one of the largest OEMs pro-actively promoting AOSP development for their phones and tablets, and today they’ve added two more devices to the list, adding the Xperia Z1 and Z2, and Xperia M2 to their AOSP for Xperia project on SonyXperiaDev GitHub. As well as adding support for the two new phones, Sony has also announced a new unified kernel for devices using the Qualcomm MSM8974 processor. Adding a unified kernel will make for more easier and faster mods for community developers. The unified kernel will be easier for ROM developers to work with as all kernel source[Read More...]

Rumoured monster phablet from Sony hits the AnTuTu treadmill, struts its stuff

Rumoured monster phablet from Sony hits the AnTuTu treadmill, struts its stuff

It looks like Sony has been busy in Dr. Frankenstein’s lab. New benchmarks have surfaced via AnTuTu of a device dubbed the Xperia Z3X, and the specs are rather beastly. According to the AnTuTu benchmark, Sony have managed to shoehorn a 6.2″ screen with QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution and a gargantuan 4GB of RAM into this rumoured successor to the Xperia Z Ultra, paired with Qualcomm’s 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 chipset and Adreno 430 GPU. Android 4.4.2 rounds off the list, though we’d hope to see Android 4.4.4 if this device makes it to market. But wait, there’s more! Sony seems to[Read More...]

Ausdroid Podcast 123 – the Moto 360 and Sony’s new toys

Ausdroid Podcast 123 – the Moto 360 and Sony’s new toys

Welcome to episode 123 of the Ausdroid podcast! This week we had a special appearance by Matt Booth to tell us all about his shiny new Moto 360 and get us jealous. Jason was having none of that though, having decided that Sony‘s new Smartwatch 3 would soon be his next Android Wear device, but a battle royale with Dan might loom in the future for the right to review it. Scott meanwhile seemed more interested in the rumours of the Nexus 6, and with good reason as recent leaks have started to reveal more about the new phone. With[Read More...]

Unlocking Bootloader Diminishes Your Z3 Series Camera Software

Unlocking Bootloader Diminishes Your Z3 Series Camera Software

In recent times Sony have been extremely developer friendly, offering help to the developer community on XDA Developers when creating custom ROMS for Sony devices. Sony offer an official bootloader unlock tool (that does NOT automatically void your warranty) and are generally developer and Android friendly also sending a lot of patches upstream into the AOSP codebase. They coded the base to the new theme engine inside CyanogenMod and most other current custom ROMs and have also opened up a public kernel repo to let community developers contribute to MSM8x74 family of devices. Despite all of this all is not[Read More...]

Everything Android at the 2014 EB Expo

Everything Android at the 2014 EB Expo

The 2014 EB Expo is here, running from today until Sunday October 5 at the Sydney Showgrounds. Unsurprisingly, as we found last year, the show is heavily skewed towards the major consoles, but with area set up for independent games developers to showcase their wares. Sony Remote Play First of all, I checked out the Sony stand and found them promoting their new Xperia Z3 range with its PlayStation 4 Remote Play capability. This involves attaching your phone or tablet to a PlayStation-like controller which then streams your gameplay from the console and uses your phone as a screen, streaming[Read More...]
