Sony Xperia Z1S leaks – could launch in late November

The Sony Xperia Z1S has leaked, being photographed next to its larger brother, the Xperia Z1. You may be wondering why you haven't heard of the Z1S before - that's because it is the international version of the previously seen Z1F . The Z1F apparently is the Japanese only version, with the Z1S being the international model. The Xperia Z1S is the mini version of the much admired Xperia Z1, but unlike other manufacturers mini versions, the Z1S packs all of the hardware of the powerful Z1, except the screen has shrunk to a 4.3" display... Xperia Z1s appears briefly on Sony Global website – could be the international version of the Z1 f

When Sony and NTT DoCoMo announced the Sony Xperia Z1 f for the Japanese market last month there was an immediate outcry for the phone to be launched internationally, and a small slip-up by Sony showing a model of phone called the Z1s on their website could be the pre-cursor to just that. The prospect of a 'Mini' version of a flagship phone that finally didn't compromise anything - well, maybe the screen - had many Android fans who long for a smaller screened flagship device very much excited. The Z1 f matched the current Sony flagship the... Continue reading

Sony Xperia Z1 — Review

Sony's second 2013 flagship phone doesn't disappoint. Earlier this year, we rather enjoyed our time with Sony's Xperia Z. The company's waterproof, dustproof, “lifeproof" device proved popular despite being the underdog in the annual HTC-Samsung duopoly of mega powerful flagship phones. It's thought that the device's popularity may have been assisted by the release window, which saw Sony get the Xperia Z to market a month or two before the One and the Galaxy S4, but the device wasn't without its flaws. Sony's breaking with the accepted market trend of releasing one-flagship-per-year, taking a second bite at the... Continue reading

Tap & Pay in Android 4.4 – Will you be able to use it in Australia?

The introduction of Tap & Pay in Android 4.4 has sparked the hopes of many Android users in Australia of an phone based NFC payment system such as that used in the US since the launch of Google Wallet back in September 2011, but as a traditionally US based service, will this work in Australia? The ability to use your phone to tap and pay at any one of the hundreds of thousands of NFC enabled Visa Paywave or Mastercard PayPass terminals that are present in retailers across Australia has been a dream since Google Wallet was first introduced.... Sony Smart Watch 2 — Review

Want a new wrist based accessory? The Smart Watch 2 could be it. The Sony SmartWatch 2 (SW2) is Sony's third generation smart watch, and the successor to what Sony simply called the Smart Watch. The current model is an advance in all aspects from the previous edition. The SmartWatch 2 is perhaps more properly described as a second screen for your phone, as it's not a standalone item, it relies on being tethered to your phone via Bluetooth to receive its smarts. In the box you get the SmartWatch 2 with a black silicon band, a quick start guide and... Continue reading

Sony Xperia Z Ultra — Review

Sony's 6.4" phablet dwarfs the competition, but is bigger really better? Sony's Xperia Z Ultra is an impressive phone - in physical size, style and technical specifications. On paper the phone looks fantastic and has probably attracted the interest of anyone who likes a large phone. But how big is too big? People scoffed at the Galaxy Note when it was released, but it spawned one of Samsung's - and the industry as a whole's - most popular line of phones. Can the Xperia Z Ultra help Sony pull off the same trick? When I first laid eyes... Continue reading

First Impression: Sony SmartWatch 2

I have been trialing a Sony SmartWatch 2 (SW2) for the last few days, and the first impressions are good, though a more in-depth review shall be coming soon. The SmartWatch 2 is a handsome device. The case is predominately matte black aluminium, which is polished around the bezel. The only physical button is on the side in the traditional watch winder position. The button itself continues Sony's recent design theme, and is the same as the power button on the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra. The watch comes with a silicon wrist band in Australia, though...
