Toshiba announced their second Chromebook, creatively named the Chromebook 2 at IFA this week, offering a few hardware updates to their 13.3″ screen form factor. Today, Toshiba Australia has announced that they will be bringing the Chromebook 2 to Australia. Toshiba Australia have advised that the Chromebook 2 – CB30(PLM02A-007001) – will be arriving in Australia this October with a retail price of $499. Unfortunately, the Chromebook 2 coming to Australia will not be the 1080P resolution version, it will in fact be the lower specced 1366×768 resolution model. Toshiba CB30 Chromebook — Review

Toshiba CB30 Chromebook — Review

Can Toshiba bring their Windows laptop expertise to the Chromebook market Back when I used to sell laptops at retail — back in the late 90’s, early 2000’s — there was one name that was synonymous with quality: Toshiba. Customers would ask for the best, and I’d recommend Toshiba. There was a premium price on their gear but it was worth it: they were well made, ran well and their after-sales service was fantastic. Times have changed though, not just for Toshiba but the entire industry. Toshiba still strives to make some of the best laptops on the planet, but[Read More...]

Toshiba Chromebook now available in Australia for $399

Since the announcement of a Haswell based Toshiba Chromebook in September last year, I admit I’ve been holding out to see what this company can do with the ‘other’ Google Operating System. Announced officially at CES, the Toshiba Chromebook has today been announced as available at retail in Australia. With a 13.3¨ screen – but still packing the same 1366 x 768 resolution of it’s smaller screened cousins – the Toshiba Chromebook is a svelte, clean looking device. It’s powered by an Intel Haswell-based Dual Core processor which Toshiba are claiming allows for up to nine hours of battery life.[Read More...]

Toshiba launches new tablet range

Toshiba launches new tablet range

This morning, Toshiba launched their new Android tablet range. With sizes ranging from a relatively diminutive 7.7″ tablet all the way up to a massive 13.3″ behemoth they seem to have the screen sizes covered. All the tablets in their range are protected by a tough aluminium shell and have Gorilla Glass Screens, they run Android 4.0(Ice Cream Sandwich) and pack Tegra 3 CPUs, in fact the main difference between all the models appears to be mainly the screen size. Toshiba is aiming the 7.7″ tablet at people who would are mainly interested in games, movies and photos on their[Read More...]

IDC: 15% of tablets shipped in Q4 2011 were running Android, Acer the front runner

The Internation Data Corporation (IDC) have released their report on Tablets in Australia, and it’s not a pretty sight for Android. IDC states that 15% of all tablets shipped in the last quarter of 2011 were running on Android. That’s 15% of 587,000: 88,050. Acer shipped the largest quantity of Android tablets in Q4 of 2011, beating out Motorola, ASUS and Samsung, all in their respective positions. The obvious majority of shipped tablets went to Apple with the iPad 2. These statistics make it abundantly clear that Android tablets are failing to compete with Apple’s iPad. Worse still, it’s the[Read More...]

Toshiba unveils pricing for AT200 10″ Tablet

Toshiba has today released pricing and availability information for the AT200 which we first heard about back in September last year when it was announced at IFA in Germany. The 10″ AT200 is one of the thinnest and lightest tablets to be released at just 7.7mm thin and weighing only 558g, it will sell at $579. Toshiba advised the tablet will be available in early February and given the reach Toshiba laptops have in retail stores I imagine it will be pretty easy to lay your hands on the AT200, the specs appear to be fairly decent : Android™ 3.2[Read More...]
