Ausdroid Podcast 120 – the Motocast

Welcome to episode 120 of the Ausdroid podcast! We’ve all been randomly unavailable for the last few weeks, but the podcast is finally back this week – and what a week to come back! With so much news coming out of Motorola, we decided this is really the Motocast episode. There isn’t a single thing Motorola’s doing that we’re not interested in at the moment, and the Moto 360 is topping that list! There’s also a bit of local carrier news, along with the now-regular OnePlus discussion and a quick recap of Kogan’s new 4G smartphone. With Jason Murray, Dan[Read More...]

Vodafone updates their My Vodafone app for Android

Vodafone updates their My Vodafone app for Android

Vodafone has released a major update to its My Vodafone app for Android, and somehow it snuck its way onto my HTC One M8 without me realising. After being pointed to the possibility of an update, I just had to take a quick look, and I must say, the update is rather fresh. Sign in simply with your mobile number and password (or you can register pretty easily too) and you get at-a-glance access to your usage, remaining data and included value, as well as the ability to check out less common things such as roaming settings, previous bills, and[Read More...]

Vodafone announces plans to use 850MHz network to extend the reach of their 4G network

Vodafone is serious about 4G, that’s nothing new, after switching on their 4G network back in June last year, the network has in independent testing shown it runs one of the fastest networks in Australia. But now they want their 4G network to reach more people, so today, they’ve announced a new plan which will extend their 4G coverage to reach 95% of Australia’s metro residents by the end of this year. The way Vodafone intends to do it is a little bit interesting. The extension will be at the cost of the 850MHz 3G network, which Vodafone will re-farm[Read More...]

Vodafone apologises for network issues with a free data weekend

Vodafone apologises for network issues with a free data weekend

Many Australians, including some of our guys, were affected by Vodafone’s network outage yesterday, which left many Vodafone customers unable to send or receive SMS, and worse yet, unable to make or receive telephone calls. Fortunately for me, this wasn’t too serious — I wasn’t able to call home to find out what to bring for lunch — but I’m sure plenty of others had more important calls and SMS unable to be made. To say sorry for this, Vodafone has announced that this weekend, all customers will be able to use as much data as they like to make[Read More...]
