Vodafone apologises for network issues with a free data weekend

Many Australians, including some of our guys, were affected by Vodafone’s network outage yesterday, which left many Vodafone customers unable to send or receive SMS, and worse yet, unable to make or receive telephone calls. Fortunately for me, this wasn’t too serious — I wasn’t able to call home to find out what to bring for lunch — but I’m sure plenty of others had more important calls and SMS unable to be made. To say sorry for this, Vodafone has announced that this weekend, all customers will be able to use as much data as they like to make[Read More...]

Vodafone’s #TheVault competition is underway – details for the Ausdroid Crew inside!

Hi guys, pardon the intrusion into your daily dose of Android news! It’s Monday May 26, which means – besides being my birthday – that Vodafone‘s #TheVault competition is underway! Vodafone has released clue #1 this morning and it’s time for us to get cracking. There’s now a Google+ Community for the Ausdroid Vault Crew. Ausdroid’s got a full crew of 50 participants, so it’s time to get organised! This is where it gets a little messy, though. I’ve invited those of you I could find on Google+ to join the community, but I wasn’t able to find everyone. So,[Read More...]

Last night, Samsung and Vodafone announced a nationwide social competition known as The Vault with a grand prize of 50 – yep, fifty – Galaxy S5 phones. Participants can form crews of up to 50 people and pool their talents, wits and resources in order to win the phones. There’s a weekly combination you’ll need to discover from clues given out daily by Vodafone and Samsung, and a weekly challenge will involve shooting particular photos or videos for additional clues to[Read More...]

Australian HTC One M8s receiving an update to 1.54.710.8 — All Carriers

If you’re the owner of an HTC One (M8) in Australia, you’ve probably seen reports on US Android blogs a few weeks ago about a pending software update. It doesn’t bring the much-awaited jump to Android 4.4.3 — Google hasn’t pushed that yet — but it does bring some new features, bug fixes and other things which are kind of exciting. I managed to capture the update notification this morning so you can see what’s in store: For those who don’t want to load the imagery, here’s a quick list: General stability improvements Call audio performance improvement Addition of a new Extreme[Read More...]

Huawei Ascend G6 coming to Vodafone, Optus and retail stores in June

Huawei Ascend G6 coming to Vodafone, Optus and retail stores in June

Huawei hosted an event in Sydney this morning to announce the Australian launch of the Ascend G6 smartphone, coming to Australian retailers as well as on-contract at Optus from June 2, and Vodafone from June 11. This was a bit of a surprise given the overnight launch of the Asend P7 in Paris (it took a while to realise I wasn’t looking at the P7 once I arrived at the event), but Huawei’s Australian staff were apologetic for the confusion and assured us we’d be seeing the P7 and other products in good time. The Ascend G6 borrows from Huawei’s[Read More...]

Take the Vodafone network for a spin when you buy a $2 SIM card from Coles

Take the Vodafone network for a spin when you buy a $2 SIM card from Coles

It’s been a pretty dark time for Vodafone over the last few years, the network lost a steady stream of customers over consecutive years, over frustrations experienced with their network coverage. But after investing Billions of dollars over the last four years into their existing 3G and burgeoning 4G network, Vodafones outlook is looking a lot rosier. The outflow of customers appears to be stemmed, and they can proudly claim over 1 million customers are now enjoying the fastest 4G network in Australia. Now Vodafone is looking to invite some of their former customers back to the network and to[Read More...]

Olé, Olé, Olé – Vodafone adds Brazil to their list of countries eligible for $5 International roaming

Brazil will be the focus of the world in mid-June, when the 20th FIFA World Cup kicks off in São Paulo when Brazil plays Croatia. If you’re lucky enough to be there in person to see it, you’ll want to phone, text, tweet or tell someone who isn’t there about it. Luckily, Vodafone has today announced they’ve added Brazil to their list of countries covered under the Roam for $5 plan. The addition of Brazil, brings the total list of countries supported to 47. Meet Brittany, Australia’s first official Samsung Galaxy S5 owner

Meet Brittany, Australia’s first official Samsung Galaxy S5 owner

The Samsung Galaxy S5 launched worldwide today, and due to the timezones, Australia was the first country to kick off sales. Vodafone were aiming for the early adopter crowd and opened selected stores from 6am, a ploy that seems to have worked, with Vodafone Australia managing to sell the what they are claiming is the worlds first Samsung Galaxy S5 [Ed. we don't count South Korean embargo breakers ;)]. With such a popular phone, Brittany said she was aware that the stock would sell out fast and knowing that the Vodafone stores were opening early for it, she decided to[Read More...]
