Vodafone trialling HD Voice

Vodafone trialling HD Voice

Earlier today, I made a phone call that sounded so clear that I felt like I was actually standing next to the person on the other end. Telstra have had HD voice for a while now, but being a long-standing Vodafone customer, I’ve not had the pleasure of experiencing it. Yesterday, Vodafone announced that they were commencing the rollout of their LTE network, but what they didn’t announce was that they are also trialling HD voice. After an excited, but confused few minutes, I did what all good nerds do, and took to Twitter to find out what was going[Read More...]

Vodafone 4G — Preview

Vodafone 4G — Preview

Ausdroid has had the privilege of playing with Vodafone’s 4G network for the last week. Here’s what we found. Late last week, Vodafone approached us and asked Ausdroid would like to take part in a secret project. With not much more information than this, we of course accepted, and within a short while we found out we’d have a (relatively) exclusive opportunity to have a play with Vodafone’s new 4G/LTE network before it became open to the general public. We were invited to take a trial device, travel around wherever we wanted, and see how the network performed. I have[Read More...]

Vodafone switches on LTE network

Vodafone switches on LTE network

As of today, Vodafone customers in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Newcastle and Wollongong will be progressively able to crank their mobile downloads to 11, with Vodafone having flipped the switch and activated their 4G LTE network in the said cities. Vodafone are claiming that their network is the fastest in Australia, with speeds up to 100Mbps, and trials showed that the network was indeed capable of achieving upwards of 50Mbps download speeds. Of course, trials are much different to real-world usage and it will be truly impressive if Vodafone can keep those sorts of speeds going after opening the[Read More...]

Vodafone updating the Samsung Galaxy SII to Jelly Bean 4.1.2

After a bit of a false start a couple of weeks ago, Vodafone and Samsung are now pushing the 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update to Galaxy SII owners. While most of these users are likely coming to the end of their contract, there’s still a huge number of users out there sporting the once flagship of the Android fleet. In their blog post, Vodafone have stated that As with all Samsung updates it is released in batches, so don’t worry if you haven’t received an update notification yet. If you receive a message stating “Access to the software update service is[Read More...]

Sony Xperia SP coming soon to Vodafone Australia

Sony Xperia SP coming soon to Vodafone Australia

In a post on Vodafone Australia’s blog, the carrier outlined their plans to bring the Sony Xperia SP to market. The Xperia SP is a well specced mid-ranged device that is sure to impress if it’s priced accordingly. Sony are attempting to make the phone more ‘personal’ by adding an LED-lit bar to the bottom of the device which can light up in different colours for notifications. It can also pulse along with music that the device is playing. I’m not sure how that makes the device personal, but sure, it’s a cool little gimmick. The specs are nothing to[Read More...]

Vodafone joins 4G party; LTE to roll out from June

Vodafone joins 4G party; LTE to roll out from June

Vodafone do not have the best reputation in the Australian mobile industry, but they are working really hard at improving the quality of their service. Although they’re a bit behind the competition – Telstra began the rollout of their 4G network over 12 months ago, and Optus switched theirs on midway through last year – Vodafone’s new 4G network looks pretty promising. Vodafone have announced today that they will commence the rollout of their LTE network in June in the major cities around Australia. The rollout will start with the major cities – Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide, but[Read More...]
