Telstra have announced that the Gingerbread update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab (yeah, the one we told you about weeks ago) is available for download. What we’re more interested in is what cool new things — besides Gingerbread — the update will bring to the device, and Telstra lists them as follows:

  • More efficient power management, extending device battery life
  • Processor performance enhancements, improving the on-screen interaction and gaming experience
  • A redesigned multi-touch interface to improve the user’s speed and accuracy of typing, including auto-correction
  • One-Touch text copy and paste
  • New design themes and support for more media formats (ACC/WebM/VP8)
  • Enhanced Exchange ActiveSync functionality

For an update that brings the Galaxy Tab to a version of Android two releases behind Ice Cream Sandwich, it’s not too bad. If you haven’t already downloaded the update, download Samsung Kies; plug in your device; check for updates then you’re good to go.
