Believe it or not there are people out there who don`t always want or need the latest and greatest phone(GASP!), but these same people do require a basic phone with smartphone capability that works & Android has offered handset manufacturers the ability to offer a consistent smartphone OS which covers high and low end phones, which brings us to the LG Optimus Spirit, which will launch as a Pre-Paid phone on the Telstra Network.

Available from Telstra for $149, the handset is locked to the Telstra network. Telstra have classed the Optimus Spirit as ‘Blue Tick’ certified which means it gives better coverage in regional and rural coverage areas than other non Blue Tick certified phones. This is stupid, but can you do screen shots on these phones?

You can, with a screenshot app. These need usually the device to be rooted though.
Pick your poison here – https://play.google.com/store/search?q=screenshot&c=apps .The one I use on my LG P500 Optimus One, and Telstra T-Touch Tab is Screenshot by Kastor Soft – https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.geeksoft.screenshot and it requires the device to be rooted.Checking the Whirlpool thread about the P690 – http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1907434 , the Windows app to get root for these is available on Mediafire – http://www.mediafire.com/?6dblmt98qj8wxeh

Call me dumb, but the memory is expandable. I would like to use this phone as a wifi hot spot, since it has the blue tick and i live in the bush 80 k’s west of Brisbane. I have a Telstra turbo usb stick, just wondering if this would be any better. Plus i would be able to combine call’s and data on the one sim.

It seems to be not too bad specs for the money but the storage space I fear would be as big a problem as my optimus one as it does not leave much space for many apps. I wonder if this one will support Flash?

The lack of storage will be a harsh point of fail for the Spirit, as the Optimus One only has a mere 200Mb ROM storage, and the Spirit has less, 150Mb.
As for Flash, I doubt it. It looks to be based the old ARM v6, which Adobe refuse to do Flash for.In short, the Optimus Spirit is a very minutely updated version of the Optimus One with less user storage space that the Optimus One.Shopping for an entry level Android phone now, I’d advise to treat both the Optimus One and the Spirit with ignore.

Actually I`ve played with a Galaxy 5, one of the guys I work with has one, not a bad little phone, Samsung are really shining at the moment in both the low and the high end of the market.

Same..but i agree the 5 is a really good little phone. its really well built, speedy enough and it kind of seems bigger than what it actually is with it’s buttons. its screen is great to and battery im getting 4 days out of mine with data switched off.
