Telstra has just announced the Telstra Smart Touch 2, a budget priced pre-paid Android handset, the kicker though is you can actually get this phone in either Black or Pink. The Smart-Touch2 handset is only $99 but gives customers access to a large part of the smart phone functionality that Android has to offer, including GMail, Google Maps and of course the Google Play Store. You aren’t going to be playing HD Games on it but if you’re aiming at a $99 phone that is obviously not your intent

At $99 I’m not going to lie, it’s not got the best hardware but it is ok especially for the price tag :

  • 3.5″ HVGA Capacative Screen
  • Android 2.3
  • Wi-Fi, GPS
  • 2MP Camera
  • microSD Card slot with 2GB Card included
  • 116 x 61.5 x 12.5mm
  • 129gms
  • Battery
    • Talk Time: Up to 180 mins
    • Standby Time: Up to 200 hrs

Available now from Telstra Stores or from the Telstra Website the range of options for pre-paid are as follows :

This phone isn’t going to blow the lid off anyone hardware wise, but I’ll attempt to get my hands on one to take it for a spin and see how it handles.

Anyone know how this would handle something like “Zombies, Run!”? I want to get a cheap second phone to take running and would love if it also could run gps based apps like “Zombies, Run!”

My Mum just got this phone (pink, too) as her first smart phone and it is PERFECT for that market. She’s picking it up quickly, and now wants a tablet like my Nexus 7.

You`re like a dealer, getting them hooked on the low end then pushing them higher 😉

Good to see your evaluating the lower end phone models, its not all about the high end beasts, looks like a good phone for oldies like my grandparents.
