Australian deal-a-day site Zazz has a Rikomagic MK802 II Android 4.0 Mini PC available today only for $79 (plus $7 shipping).

If you’re not familiar with these devices, they’re about the size of a USB stick with a HDMI plug at one end. They plug directly into your television, and draw power from a USB port. The device connects to your network over wifi, and has a full-size USB port to connect input peripherals – conveniently, Zazz also happens to have a combo remote / mouse / keyboard available today. You can also use a MicroSD card to expand the limited builtin storage.

While “Android-on-a-stick” devices have been around for a little while, they’ve improved performance and features in leaps and bounds over the past few months. It’s a growing market, with similar products available from Roku and Kogan, and a recent “Pocket TV” project on Kickstarter.

The Rikomagic units were detailed in a feature in last month’s issue of APC, although the article isn’t currently available online. I’ve purchased one today, and will aim to provide a writeup when I receive it.

Thanks for the tip, Alex D!

Before discovering the Nexus One, Jason thought he didn't need a smartphone. Now he can't bear to be without his Android phone. Jason hails from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane depending on his mood and how detailed a history you'd like. A web developer by day with an interest in consumer gadgets and electronics, he also enjoys reading comics and has a worryingly large collection of Transformers figures. He'd like to think he's a gamer, but his Wii has been in a box since he moved to Sydney, and his PlayStation Vita collection is quite lacking. Most mornings you'll find him tilting at various windmills on Twitter - follow @JM77 and say hi!
