LG Optimus G will arrive in Australia with a 13MP Camera afterall

When we first got word that the LG Optimus G was coming to Australia we were advised that the phone would be delivered to different markets with one of two different camera sensors either 8MP or 13MP depending on the market. We were advised early on that Australia would be getting the 8MP version but today I was advised by LG that the Optimus G will be arriving in Australia with a 13MP camera after all. Spec wise that is the only change we’ve been advised of so the specs on the Optimus G are now :

  • 4.7″ 1280×768 True HD IPS display with Zerogap Touch (in-cell touch) technology
  • 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 CPU with Adreno 320 GPU
  • 32GB of internal storage (no microSD slot)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 8MP Rear Camera & 1.3MP front facing camera
  • 2G / 3G / LTE
  • Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0 HS, A-GPS, MHL and DLNA, NFC
  • 131.9 x 68.9 x 8.45mm, 145g
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with LG UX
  • 2,100mAh Battery
    • Talk time: 15 hours
    • Standby: 335 hours

Given that the Nexus 4 is based very much on the Optimus G specifications but without LTE, a number of people who were disappointed with the Nexus 4 coming only in HSPA+ are seriously considering the Optimus G instead. LG has advised previously that the phone will launch here in Australia in early 2013 so we have only a little while longer to wait. Who is going for the Optimus G purely based on the inclusion of LTE or does the 13MP camera also entice you?

Thanks: ABCTech.

That 13MP shooter will be what they use trick unsuspecting nubes into buying this over the N4.

you have still left it as 8MP? shouldn’t that be changed to 13MP REAR CAMERA?

I won’t buy such a device because this phone will sold at least $700 or $800 and you can’t get update as quick as Nexus 4

correct: “withOUT LTE” other then that, im really tempted to just go with the N4 due to price and getting it earlier. Though 32GB really has me tempted, LTE no so much. And LG doesnt have the greatest track record with software updates do they? I would like to think that it would be a very easy job for someone to make a AOSP ROM for this but am still very hesitant. I also expect that this will be a $7-800 device compared to the $400 for the N4. I guess i see how well i resist temptation once the… Read more »
