If you’re into purchasing or selling second hand items online in Australia then of course you’ll know about Gumtree. The Gumtree Australia Android App was released this week into the Google Play Store for download and from first looks it’s not bad for a first version.
There is a fairly comprehensive Terms of Service when you first load up the application, it seems to be fairly standard stuff but in this day and age you’re best off reading it thoroughly yourself to make sure there’s nothing you don’t personally agree with in there before proceeding.
With the current rating on the app after 11 reviews standing at 4.5 Stars, it seems fairly well received so far. With between 1,000 and 5,000 downloads of the app since it was released on Tuesday it shows promise, especially over the other unofficial Gumtree Android Apps that are available in the Play Store.
The feature list is fairly comprehensive covering most things you’d want :
- Find ads near you
- Edit and manage your ads
- View full ad descriptions with high resolution photos
- Contact posters from within the app
- Refine search in search result
- Post an ad with pictures from your smartphone or take new pictures
- Track ads on your watch list
- Share ads via SMS (as well as Facebook, Twitter, and Email)
Overall I like the look of the App, although I have literally only just installed it. There’s still a few features missing but their help page has a place you can suggest items to be added to the iOS/Android apps. Simply click here, choose topic “iPhone/Android > Help and Suggestions”, and submit your feature request. I’ve already submitted a request for a watched items list with notifications to be sent when they’re listed, but if enough people request it perhaps that feature will get priority.
The app is a free download for devices running FroYo(Android 2.2) and upwards, it’s a 1.7MB download. Give it a go and see what you think.
