App today is recommended by regular reader CarstenUmano: News Read to You.

The tagline for the app is ‘Interesting articles read to you by real people’. It’s an interesting idea, which is basically that instead of reading news, you have it read to you by professional voice actors. According to their blog, the app is made by ex-Googlers so they do know Android design.

Upon opening the App, you login – or not, but you get more features by logging in – using your Facebook account or you can sign up with an email address and you can then start choosing your interests, there’s a wide range of categories to choose from – Inspirational, World & Politics, Scientific, Enterpeneurial, Technology, Lifestyle, Facts & History, Entertainment and Business.

Once you get into the list of stories available you can begin playing them back individually or begin building a playlist. It’s a pretty neat idea and you also have the option to download your playlist for listening to offline – only the latest 20 articles from your playlist are downloaded though.

There’s a social aspect as well that lets you browse what your friends are listening to but essentially the only thing missing is the ability to add stories from your own sources to have them read.

It’s a free app on Google Play, it’s available for devices running Android 2.2 and upwards and is a 5.8MB Download.
