I’ve been buying apps in Google Play or the Android Market, since I was first allowed to, the initial rollout of purchased apps was pretty rocky with Telstra and Vodafone first allowing app purchases way before Optus. My first Android app purchase was on the 1st of June, 2010 and was called My Collection Pro, it doesn’t even appear to be on Google Play now, I don’t think I’ve installed it in at least a couple of years, but at the time it felt good to have purchased an app.

Over the last three years I’ve spent around AUD $240 on apps alone, this is minus movies, music, books, magazines and hardware and even then it’s only a rough estimate because up until early 2011 – around March/April – prices were in the local currency so I can’t get an exact estimate. If you’re interested in how much you’ve spent over the years, head over to wallet.google.com and check it out, but remember this also includes books, music, magazines, music and of course hardware.

How much have you spent on Apps?

Dan is a die-hard Android fan. Some might even call him a lunatic. He's been an Android user since Android was a thing, and if there's a phone that's run Android, chances are he owns it (his Nexus collection is second-to-none) or has used it.

Dan's dedication to Ausdroid is without question, and he has represented us at some of the biggest international events in our industry including Google I/O, Mobile World Congress, CES and IFA.

For those of us who haven’t had a phone plan since 2001 can you explain how a carrier could prevent you from installing apps? Surely they have no involvement with apps on a phone?

Are you stalking me Daniel? I was just chatting with some friends on irc yesterday about how much we’d all spent on android apps over the years. Well I’ve had a number of Android phones – starting with the HTC Magic, Nexus One, HTC Desire Z, Galaxy Nexus and now Galaxy S4. In that time I’ve spent about ~$340 on apps. Funnily enough the most expensive two that I bought – LogMeIn Ignition (@ $19.99) and SPB 3D Launcher (@ $14.95) I rarely used. What’s my most used app over the years and didn’t cost me a cent? FBReader by… Read more »

+1 for FBReader. I’ve been using it since before it came to android. None of the paid readers even come close.
