The LG G Pad is real and coming this year

LG have just officially announced the LG G Pad – the latest entrant in their ‘Premium’ G Series line up – ahead of an official debut at IFA later this week.

The LG G Pad is the first new tablet from LG since their first attempt to enter the Android tablet market with the LG Optimus Pad, failed. But that was before they had a chance to create the LG Optimus G as well as work with Google on creating the Nexus 4.

The LG G Pad comes with a full HD – the first tablet to do so in the 8″ tablet market LG say – 1920×1200 resolution, 8.3″ screen. As expected the G Pad will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon SOC, but not the 800 that is running on the recently launched LG G2, instead the G Pad will run the Snapdragon 600 SOC.

LG G Pad Full Specs :

  • 1.7GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 SOC
  • 8.3-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200 pixels/273 ppi) Display
  • 2GB LPDDR2 RAM
  • 16GB on-board Storage
  • 5.0MP Rear Camera with 1.3MP Front Facing Camera
  • Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2
  • 216.8×126.5×8.3mm @ 338grams
  • 4,600mAh Battery

In terms of software, the G Pad comes with the same features launched on the LG G2, including :

  • KnockOn – the ability to tap the screen twice to wake it.
  • Slide Aside – an ability to slide currently open apps to the side using a three finger swipe gesture.
  • QSlide – Use up to three Floating Apps on the screen at one time.

What the G Pad introduces is QPair, an ability to have notifications including calls and messages appear on your LG G Pad, being a standalone App, this convergence of notifications will be available to generic Android devices, although how far back this feature will be compatible with is unknown but for now, LG recommends a phone running at least Jelly Bean.

The G Pad will be available in Black & White and rollout globally in Q4 this year. Prices should be announced when it launches in each market.

Dan is a die-hard Android fan. Some might even call him a lunatic. He's been an Android user since Android was a thing, and if there's a phone that's run Android, chances are he owns it (his Nexus collection is second-to-none) or has used it. Dan's dedication to Ausdroid is without question, and he has represented us at some of the biggest international events in our industry including Google I/O, Mobile World Congress, CES and IFA.
