dsc07829

You don’t normally think Lenovo as an Android OEM, however the company yesterday officially unveiled at IFA Berlin, the S5000, a budget 7″ tablet that is running a skinned (yes skinned) Android Jelly Bean which the company is billing as “thin and ultra mobile”.

The full range of specs are:

  • 7.9mm (0.3 inch) thick and weighing 236 grams (0.54 pound)
  • 7″ 1,280 x 800 (216 ppi) TFT Display
  • 1.2GHz quad-core Media Tek 8389 processor
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 5MP rear facing camera, 1.6MP front facing
  • Android 4.2

You can find the full spec rundown through GSM Arena.

Lenovo have stated that a 3G/HSPA+ connectivity will be available in select countries (although the US does miss out on this option). Pricing is starting at 199 euros (about $285AUD) for the 16GB WiFi model, with the 3G version priced at 249 euros (about $357AUD).

Lenovo have stated that the S5000 will be available from Q4 2013 at this stage, although there is no news if or when the device will come to our shores. However we will be keeping an eye out for any news for the S5000 release here at Ausdroid.

So would you consider buying the Lenovo S5000?

Why would I buy it rather than a Nexus?

Seriously, go check out the Nexus 7 (2013) after seeing that screen you won’t want this.

If you want budget 7in, 3G data/WiFi, microSD, and poor screen resolution, then this should be on your shopping list.
