Nexus 7 - hero - press site

Looking for a good gift idea for the holidays? Google’s now offering the 2013 model Nexus 7 with free shipping for a limited time.

All models (16GB, 32GB and 32GB with LTE) are currently showing as “In stock” with 1-2 business days dispatch time.

If you’ve been thinking of buying a Nexus 7 for that special someone – or maybe just yourself? – this might be a good time to order and save a bit on shipping, which usually costs $20 per device on hardware from Google’s store.

Put a Sleeve on it

You might also want to pair the device up with Google’s newly-released Nexus 7 sleeves. These accessories were listed as “Coming Soon” earlier this month and today they seem to have finally gone on sale.

Available in Grey/White, Black/Grey or (yes!) Bright Yellow, each sleeve will set you back a somewhat steep $34.95. It seems Google’s reconsidered the shipping costs for the sleeves though, as they’ll only cost $4.50 to ship bringing the total to about $40. We’ve heard from Ausdroid reader Anthony Young that his order was dispatched within a couple of hours of being placed.

It might be nice if Google – y’know, if you’re listening – would notify customers who’ve purchased a device through Google Play when new accessories become available for that device.

We’re yet to see the new wireless charger go on sale in Australia. Or the old one, for that matter.

Deals Elsewhere

Of course, it’s also worth remembering that you can buy the Nexus 7 and some accessories from other places too – you’ll save $30 over the Google Play price from Kogan on the 16GB model, $10 on the 32GB model, but Google’s accessories don’t seem to be available from other sources.

Before discovering the Nexus One, Jason thought he didn't need a smartphone. Now he can't bear to be without his Android phone. Jason hails from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane depending on his mood and how detailed a history you'd like. A web developer by day with an interest in consumer gadgets and electronics, he also enjoys reading comics and has a worryingly large collection of Transformers figures. He'd like to think he's a gamer, but his Wii has been in a box since he moved to Sydney, and his PlayStation Vita collection is quite lacking. Most mornings you'll find him tilting at various windmills on Twitter - follow @JM77 and say hi!
