LG Logo
According to legend, it’s this time of year that Google looks at their Android hardware partners and begins to choose the manufacturer of the next Nexus phone, and according to a ‘business related source’ that Gizmodo.de spoke to at Mobile World Congress, that manufacturer will be LG – for the third consecutive year.

After the sale of Motorola to Lenovo, it was widely rumoured but never confirmed that Lenovo would be manufacturing the next Nexus phone, but this new rumour tips the South Korean electronics manufacturer who has already made two well crafted phones for Google on what must have been a fairly restricted budget as making a third phone which will be based off the upcoming LG G3, which is expected around May/June.

They’ve gone as far as to create a mockup of a third LG Nexus, incorporating design and possible colours that could be built into the so-called ‘Nexus 6’, taking cues from the current as well as possible colours offered for Nexus phones, and hardware design from one of the more interesting phone releases this year – the G Flex :
Nexus 6 Concept from Gizmodo.de

Gizmodo.de also refers to LG manufacturing a Google Nexus Smartwatch, something that has been rumoured to launch at Google IO in June. Rumours around the watch are that it will feature full Google Now integration, but apart from that, not a lot is known.

LG has made two highly regarded Nexus phones – the Nexus 4 had limitations with lack of LTE as well as average camera and battery life, but was a brilliant hardware design (although a little fragile), and the Nexus 5 is a great handset that Google is continuing to improve with software tweaks as the year progresses, but is otherwise a very well designed handset. So with those two phones in their so called pocket, I and a lot of people would be Ok if this does turn out to be correct.

Would you like to see a third LG produced Nexus phone or would you like to see another manufacturer have a shot? Which one?

Hi. I believe it probably couldn’t hurt. LG making another nexus phone. I still love using my Nexus 4, and will probably upgrade to a N5 if/when it becomes unreliable, or slow.

I don’t think a Sony Nexus would be a bad thing at all either, bring it on!. One day I do believe they’ll make one. Probably when their mainstream Phones sell better.

That’s my take on it anyway.

chris

LG have done a great job with the 4 and 5, much better than Samsung. Whoever does it they have a big legacy to live up to, unfortunately this year will probably be the year to miss as I can’t justify another upgrade. The 5’s specs are so good and there is nothing I use that comes close to maxing the system out. So unless there is something earth shattering I am sticking with my 5 for personal use and 4 for work.

No issue with LG, loved both my nexus 4 & 5.
Would just like to see Sony or HTC do it.

If it’s the Nexus Flex, I’ll be buying it 9am on the day of announcement. I’ve got not problem with LG making it.

I feel quite the opposite. I’ll be very disappointed, and indeed surprised, if Google introduces such a blatant gimmick to their flagship phone.

toast

I played with one in Harvey Norman. I thought is was rather nifty.

whispy_snippet

But why? How does a slight flex in the display offer an improvement to user experience?

derp

Its much easier to reach around a large display with one hand.

whispy_snippet

That would only be applicable if the phone flexed across the shorter side which it doesn’t. That’s a negligible advantage at best anyway.

toast

Cool. You don’t have to buy one.

whispy_snippet

Neither do you.

chris

Now now children, it is just a phone no need to fight. Look outside it is a stunner, drop the phones and computers and get some sun, you will feel much better.
Another good part to that is if you do drop them and break them you get to go buy new ones.

whispy_snippet

Outsiiiiiide? Dear God.

toast

Well finally we agree.
Chris. You go outside. Horrid place.
Jenni. *I* am the last poster in this thread. You should understand that. I get the last word.

toast

Probably no significant advantage in the shape at all.
But it’s still cool.

whispy_snippet

No, it’s a gimmick that inflates the price unnecessarily. Google won’t do it.

dejavu

I wish they gave it to Sony for once :s

Jonathan

Or have Sony make a Nexus 8″ tablet 😀

subnoize

Nexus devices based on the Z2 and Z2 tablet would be amazing..

i imagine Sony don’t want to do it. Low margin. IF the rumor is true then I would guess there is little interest in making Nexus phones by the majors. Perhaps why GPE phones entered the market. Chinese manufacturers should be begging for this. great marketing doing what they best – making phones. It worked for LG

Stephen Crisafulli

If I can get it in green ill be happy with LG making it again but I would much prefer that Sony had a go at a nexus or even one of the Chiners
