Motorola’s next effort at the low end of the market, is about to launch in Australia. The Motorola Moto E, which launched last month in London, is now showing on The Good Guys website as a Dual-SIM phone, in Black or White colour options for $187.
The Good Guys website advises that stock is expected from the 1st of July, although a rider at the bottom, advises that the phone will be ‘Available for Delivery from Early July’ which merely speaks to the logistics of shipping stock to stores Australia wide. Though the phone is showing on The Good Guys website, it’s expected that much like the Moto G, the phone would be available through other retailers. JB Hifi, who partnered with Motorola to begin selling the Moto G, doesn’t show the phone on their website, nor does Officeworks or Dick Smith Electronics, who subsequently began selling the phone after its initial launch.
The Moto E is a lower specced, and cheaper version of the Moto G, but will carry a lot of the software features of the Moto G and Moto X, including the Moto Alert feature which launched first on the Moto E. The Moto E, will come with Android 4.4, but will receive an update to Android 4.4.3 quite soon according to a recent announcement from Motorola.
Hardware wise, the Moto E comes chock full of goodness for that lower end price tag. The Moto E contains :
- 4.3″ qHD (540 x 960 pixels) screen
- Dual Core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 Processor
- 1GB RAM
- 4GB On-board storage with microSD card up to 32GB
- 5MP Rear Camera (no front-facing camera)
- 2G: 850/900/1800/1900
- 3G: 850/900/1900/2100
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0(BLE), GPS with A-GPSb
- Android 4.4 (Kitkat)
- 1980 mAh Battery
- 124.8×64.8×12.3mm @
The Motorola Australia website still doesn’t show the Moto E, but that’s sure to change in the next few weeks with this launch date approaching. We’ll be asking Motorola about an official release for the Moto E, and hope to have more information as soon as Motorola can supply it. Perhaps at this price we will have at least one as a give-away.
